Installed 80mm Big Bores on my Ultra.

*NOTE - I highly recommend installing a 3/16" piece of fuel tubing on the shock shaft. This will prevent the shaft from impacting the diaphragm inside the shock.

Having spent the last four years running Toyzukis I've grown very fond of modded big bores. I was very unhappy with the factory shocks so I decided to look elsewhere. Tried the Pitbull Kroniks; however, I was unhappy with the spring selection.

So I looked to my past. Turns out the Traxxas 2659 is an 80mm Big Bore. After much searching, waiting, and more waiting I finally got my hands on four sets of these beauties. They're so old they even have the early 2000s Traxxas packaging!

Anywho here's what I ended up with:

Traxxas 2659 Big Bore (medium) shocks
Hot Racing Mini T Springs
No load spring cups by Nate
Team Associated 80wt shock oil
RC4WD Mini rod ends Z-S0398

Now I can experiment with tons of different spring rates almost on the fly! My spring cups have a slot in them unlike other no load cups. This means I don't have to remove the rod ends to change springs (what an asinine design).

P.S. I've got some Rit Black Dye on the way to correct those rod ends. :)

I mod and build these on the side for friends. Here's a look at how much darker the andodizing is on current Traxxas Big Bores. I totally dig the light grey of the past!

I run these on my 10ii with f9 portals. I had to get new diaphragms as mine had leaked out the oil in the package and were all powdery white. Traxxas was super helpful and I too am a fan of big bores

Very cool! Mine were the same way. I soaked the diaphragms for a few days and so far so good. I do however have a few Traxxas rebuild kits on hand just incase.

Are yours the old light grey too?

I love the old school packaging! I also love the older color.

I'm going to have to try some Big Bores on a scaler eventually. Traxxas does shocks right.

No load spring cups by Nate - who is Nate?

So I picked up some Rit Dye and fixed the ends. I can't believe how well it worked!

I couldn't believe it when they showed up lol. I bought a spare set of shafts and they were in the same old packaging.

Traxxas shocks are amazing!

The cups are printed by me. Shoot me shipping costs and I'll send you a set. My cups have a slot so you can easily swap springs.

I’m glad that I’m not the only one finding that the Kronik shocks have not the best spring. They’re definitely too hard for my liking
Yep! I tried both the single and dual springs. Both were to much. I even designed and printed cups to run mini t springs. Didn't turn out as planned. I guess I lucked out finding the 80mm big bores.

Man, those are some nice looking shocks! I do like the lighter shade of gray!

I have a set of Dravtechs on my PRO. By the looks of those big bores, I may have to pick up a set to put on my Origin.

I've had great luck with the Traxxas GTS shocks and use them on most of my rigs. Traxxas definitely knows how to build great shocks!

Wow I need a set of these! The stock shocks aren’t really cutting it with my rig. The heavier springs from the incision tuning kit help, but big bores would definitely be more ideal.

After seeing mine a bust ordered a set last week directly from Traxxas. Seems that is the only place to get these now. They have shipped and should arrive Monday. I will report back what color comes. I'm not the biggest fan of the current dark brown big bore color. I was pleasantly surprised at the light grey color of these.

After reading bad reviews on the FB groups about the Incision 90 and 80s I didn't even bothered building mine. X seals are supposed to be great but something isn't durable about the ones VP uses. With these you have a huge selection of mini t springs to play with. I'm loving the Hot Racing ones.

Yeah not sure but I have two that have a slight leak and I used green slime. Definitely need an upgrade.

I've got another set to mod this weekend. I'll make a detailed how to. It's all self done and VERY easy with simple hand tools.

That would be fantastic :)

For my part, I've bought 2 sets of these (so 4 shocks), originally to put on a TRX-4. This does not work - In the front at least the shocks are the perfect length to have zero travel up or down  Luckily my C2 comp truck sits perfectly with them, so... silver lining
