Imthatguy's Yeti

Nice layout, good depth to that design!

Thank you sir. Neal does good work.

Wheel and tire upgrade courtesy of my wallet. Crawler Innovations' Double Deuce 2 stage foams, Vanquish Method 2.2's and Pitbull Rock Beasts.

I've got RC4WD's new D44 Wraith housing on order, should be here by middle of next week.

Great vid and review. I can see one or two of these showing up here. The boy wants a Yeti so I'll have to get two.

Get two!

I made an upgrade. RC4WD's new D44 Wraith width rear axle. Man, it's beautiful. And as a bonus, they're using the Axial ring and pinion. I suspect that many aftermarket lockers will fit, but your actual mileage may vary. They're also modular, so making this an SCX width means swapping out a few parts. Scale looks, Axial strength.

And extremely narrow in comparison to the stock AR60.

Here it is mounted.

I will mention that you should buy all the parts on the list on RC4WD's website when ordering your axle. The outer bearings are a different size compared to Axial's, as are the driveshafts. Also, I had to grind the link mount, as I'm pretty sure this was designed for the Wraith specifically, and the transmission probably spins in a different direction, meaning the mount would have been on the bottom. No biggie.

You had to grind the link mount?

EDIT:
I understand, the ring gear is the other direction so the diff housing is flipped. So the upper link mount middle screw is in the wrong place. Yes you are right, they were made specifically for the Wraith as they were drawn in 2013.

Yep, exactly. Took all of a minute. A minor sacrifice for a much better look.

I havn't got a Yeti yet but when I get one I will start drawing....

With the lower trailing arms being almost parallel is there a lot of rear axle steer when the axle articulates (if the anti roll bar is disconnected) ?

Hmmm. I'll have to take a look in regards to axle steer.

Making the mount shouldn't be too difficult. Just reverse the middle mount point to the other side of the pumpkin. Mirror image if you will.

Yes that part can just be mirrored. I meant I will be working on new new stuff...

Centered rear axle looks good back there. Congrats to RC4WD for getting that out there. I expect those axles will be popular around the board.

Thanks, yeah, I think they'll be popular on more than one or two projects. I've got a few ideas floating around in my head for next year's ECSC builds...

Excellent!

I know this doesn't matter to most guys.. But did you happen to get a weight of that new axle? Assembled.. With or without guts.

That rear axle looks beautiful on that rig, well done.

Thanks very much. I've been babying it in anticipation of getting the Skin on the body. As soon as it arrives, carnage (there will be no carnage).

I'll see if I can get you some numbers. It's definitely heavier than stock, which should help. Always seemed front biased.

That's better! Thanks to FreqEsKinz.com for expediting delivery so I could get this wicked skin on the Yeti just in time for the East Coast Scale Challenge. Can't wait to rip it up.

The Yeti performs. I ran it in the endurance race on Saturday at the ECSC which was through a mix of terrain. Hills, wide open grassy fields, rocks, water traps, loose soil inclines, etc. It, despite being open-diffed, performed flawlessly. Made it through without a hitch, can climb on the slick rocks, bounce over logs with ease, and generally blow me away. My only caution, if you're not running full out all the time with the stock gearing, you can overheat the ESC. Harley suggested a gear down to 12T pinion which will likely help with that.

Bottom line, it's a pretty capable bit of kit that can handle nearly everything you throw at it. If you've got the space to play, get one.
