REST IN ALOHA CHIP
After hearing the news that my long time buddy JIA from many parts of the world had family orders back here to Hawaii, I knew that he'd also be moving back into the hobby that is rcrc, or more specifically building cool stuff. And during the first week of him being here DTP, he and I would share ideas back and forth, mostly because when we get together good ideas just flow like water....one of the ideas Jason came up with was a ifs base d ultra4 racing rig.
Naturally, I thought it was an amazing idea...and in less than a week(and in a damned hotel room, armed with a cordless dremel, a hacksaw, multi tool, and borrowed shit from Sheldon and I....Mr. carter created magic....aka "the cave" which gave him the nickname of tony stark.
The ifs army!!! Growing strong!!!
After seeing this and kicking around the idea of having one of my own, I asked JIA if he'd assist me in building one....naturally he kindly obliged. The rest is history.
So without further delay, I give you....JIA's IFS Build #2 of many more to come!!! All of them are based off his original one, the conceptual first build is exactly the same, honestly..there really isn't any other way to build it, top notch engineered= badass fun....almost like he has a copy machine hidden somewhere.
You may recognize it from the ready set go ifs build....it began life as my Wraith and Exo.
They went under the knife and within 4.5 hours we came out with a roller nearly identical to his IFS buggy.
I chose to make mine a little different, without the stinger up top. And I plan on actually gabbing up a new front bumper which will house a quicksand 8274 winch...more on that later.
Basically, you will need a pair of slash front shocks, i chose proline powerstrokes(jia reccommended) and i had a pair of integy shocks that are AX10 length, two complete (wraith and Exo) kits to complete this full conversion. Other parts that I'd recommend are mip or any steel drive shaft set, you can easily get away with the stock trans, but I chose RC4wd for the AX2 2 speed trans mission.
The AX2 was outfitted with a slash 3 shoe slipper assy. So more adjustment can be made in order to fine tune the power delivery.
Speaking of power, I have a MMP speed control mated to a Tekin 3300kv pro4 motor. Due to the fact that the motor has a 5mm pinion shaft i opted swap out the rotor to a 3mm for more affordable gearing options.
So I currently have a 16t pinion and a 56 t spur....spinning the. Axles at an over drive rate which is approximately 3/4 more rotation per revolution....in other words, 1st gear=normal wraith gearing with a big motor, 2nd gear= warp speed! I don't want to blow it out of proportion, but it literally does 25 mph over rough terrain, with no effort..this thing eats ruts and bumps for breakfast.
Whatever is left in the suspension for roll is handled by a hot racing sway bar that was originally designed for the Wraith and finds its new home in the rear.
I have NEVER had a rig that looks like its goes 150 mph standing still, and still handle like no other.
honestly, I think Jason really has hit the jackpot with this concept and design, Axial....if you're listening, make the next one just like this!! Seriously....and until that happens, pm JIA for an original Jason Carter IFS Ultra4 fully modified, functional and bulletproof hybrid buggy conversion....honestly, I'd totally have him make me another...his work is second to none, and in his case function and fashion work hand in hand....Enjoy!

axial made it, jay-c made it better. :ror:
