And just a note, you can get 1020 3/16 DOM 0.035 steel tube at stockcarsteel.com for around $1.45/ft. Lighter than rod and 0.035 taps 3mm.

what size taps to 4mm?

I used a set of bezels from RPP Hobby they offer and I had a few guage stickers in my parts bin. I covered the guage faces with a thick layer of clear nail polish to make them look real.
