IFS Silverado Prerunner...

Thanks man!

Small update.

After removing the plastic bumper so my prerunner style rear bumper would fit, I made a styrene filler piece that will be sanded and filled with the rest of the bed, again a look similar to what most 1:1 prerunners have with fiberglass bed sides.

I was on the fence about making my own fuel cell until I discovered Freqeskinz offers a decal sheet with a fuel cell decal. I threw together some 0.040 styrene and used the stickers to cover the fuel cell. I put Locked-Up RC zinc hex bolts around the edge to make it look like the real deal.

The top plate where the fuel lines would go is from an Axial vehicle, I don't know which one - it was with a bunch of other parts I bought. It worked perfectly.

Not bad but I need to paint the white styrene red.

It will look good in the bed. I may still add fender wells back in the bed, not sure yet.

Like most desert trucks, the fuel cell needs a clear filler neck. I made an angled neck some clear vinyl tubing fits on to. I'll paint some detail on the plate once everything is done.

Drilled mounting holes for the fuel cell and made a bracket for the filler tube. I also decided to make fender wells in the bed to keep dirt and dust directly out.

After that, I decided enough was enough and starting filling and sanding the body - time for paint. I'll probably go to AutoZone and see what they have for Duplicolor paint colors to get somewhat close to an OEM Silverado color, I still don't know what color I want, red, white, gray...

So over the next week or so I'll begin tearing the frame down and painting that, then the body.

Subscribed. Super good build you have going on. The metal fab is perfect, as well as the styrene work. That fuel cell turned out good.

And just a note, you can get 1020 3/16 DOM 0.035 steel tube at stockcarsteel.com for around $1.45/ft. Lighter than rod and 0.035 taps 3mm.

Thanks!

And thanks for the tip on the tubing! I might have to order some for my next build.

Search "DOM" on their site and it's down at the bottom of the list. It's 1020 so its not super tough but works fine for 1/10 stuff just fine. Used it on at least 5 builds now. Shipping is a little high but worth it for the cheap tube cost. They are currently having a 20% off sale. Promo code "MADNESS15".

Perfect. Now if there was only a source for c-channel for frame rails instead of splitting square stock lol

Finished up the fuel cell, painted some detail on the filler plate, painted the edges of the cell red, and painted the filler cap.

I also sprayed the interior Krylon satin black since I still haven't made up my mind on what color the body will be, black will go with whatever color I have in mind.

I also painted some areas flat black and painted my small details too. I covered the gauge faces with clear nail polish to give it a "behind glass" look. I did the same with the GPS unit too.

Love how you did the interior, did you make the steering wheel?

Man that is nice.
My rig doesn't even have an interior, I hope to be able to build a rig like yours one day, but now I'm just a noob learning.

Steering wheel is from Axial, it was mixed in with a bunch of scale parts I bought from a member. Not sure what rig it came from. It was perfect with the grove for the "top center" band on the wheel, I added a touch of color and came out pretty good.

How did split the square stock? I made frame rails but never split them apart.

I did mine with a bandsaw but it still didn't come out 100% perfect. I think with some trial and error I can come up with something lol.

Very impressive build Brotha!! Makes me wanna build a PreRunner now....

Do it! It's different.

Thanks. I'm far from what others can do on here. Buy some styrene and try it out.

Has to be one of the nicest interiors I've seen. Very nice job detailing it out. Great build!

Thank you! I could go for more detail but maybe on the next rig I build. I really want to add dash lights to the next one...

Broke the frame down a little while ago and sprayed everything with Krylon primer and Satin Black paint.

Hours of work in a plastic bin lol:

I bought some primer/paint/clear for the body today too, not sure if I will spray it tomorrow or assemble the frame.

I ordered my electronics from RPP last night, I ended up going with an Axial AE-5 ESC and Hitec 7955. That servo should give me plenty of power at 6V and I went with the AE-5 ESC just because for what I'll use the truck for it will be sufficient and it can take a 3S.

Fantastic work, quite impressive. Can't wait to see it completed.

I was very excited to see the new progress on this build! Fantastic job on everything, I especially like the front bumper it is so clean. Nice brazing sir.

Thank you! I can't wait to start the next build after this one.

I decided to assemble the frame and get it back to a roller. Still a lot of work to do.

The Locked Up RC hardware always adds nice detail to anything.

Put the Vanquish/Rigid Industries 2" light bar on the front, a black & white sneak peek before I paint the body.

I finally put down some paint on the body.

I bought about $20 worth of Duplicolor (primer/base/clear) and the GM Polar White had some issues. The bed for some reason had a red-orange hue and the cab was a very bright white. Which is strange since the bed was all one color to start before primer. I have too much time invested to have the bed look pink/orange, so I used a full can of Krylon Classic Gray over the Duplicolor and it covered much better and the color is even and uniform. For some reason the Duplicolor was very thin, almost like Testors spray lacquer in the small cans.

Hard to tell the exact color from this pic but as it dries it darkens slightly and has a tan hue. Oddly enough, this is more the color I had in mind anyway.
