husqvarna, swap over to a small deck

My dad just traded a pimped out ax-10 for this husqvarna riding mower...thats all f'd up underneath. But the motor runs decent, but everything else needs alot of work. Now we got it actually moving tonight, go the drive belt and pulleys all working, the pulley that is used to give the tensioner some leverage (something to tighten the belt on) but had to play with everything else:roll:

Anyways, the mower deck it came with, it has all the main parts, but still have another $200+ worth of belts and mounting hardware to go but, but its a 48" cutting path, whole deck is 60" wide (w/out a bagger or multcher attach.) . And we don't want to go replace gates in the yard.

So is there any orange mower experts on the board? Because i want to know how easy it be to put a smaller deck on it, right now the gate opening is 41" wide, it fits the little pos weed eater riding mower through it. (i somehow burnt up the valves in it...with no th control at all, its start and go, everything else is auto:roll

It seems a few bolts to the the brackets would work, but the question is if they all will mount up to each other, and pulleys line up.

Changing the deck to a smaller one isnt that big of a deal. Generally deck sizes range several sizes for each model. However, finding one (deck) for your particular model could prove to be a challenge and/or expensive.

The actual work involved is piece of cake though.


EDIT: how in the world are you measuring 60" on a 48" deck?? Are you measuring the chute too? FWIW you can take that off if need be. My mower has a 54" deck and I fit it on a 5ft wide trailer. I dont know how youre coming up with an extra 12" if its a 48" deck. Theres not that much excess.

yes i'm including the chute...but how much do the decks differ from different models...the mower is like somewhere between 04-06

I've been there, wasn't really finding what i wanted to, so i figured i'd see if we have any lawn mower guru's so i could actually talk with someone about it...plus i don't know all the lingo for mower parts, so thats probably my problem as well, for poor google results.

Our local dealer, a hardware store, their lawn mower man no longer works there...and whoever assembling now arn't very good at it, at least considering the assembly work of the mower we bought new a few months back.

So they arn't any help.

I said its a 48" deck, and i assumed i wouldn't have to put overall when i said 60"...its the min width to get the mower through a gate without messing with it.

electrolux makes husqvarna mowers, google electrolux and find out the different brands they make, craftsman, weedeater, poulan

also some AYP mowers of old, electrolux bought AYP years ago

Step 1. Blowtorch the deck to fit in between the gates. Leave the blades alone.

Step 2. Repeatedly drive through the gates, letting the exposed blades "clearance" the poles.

I like it, although the neighbor won't be too happy :roll:

Edit: Although i'd probably just get the plasma cutter out, a much cleaner cut, that way we can weld it back on if we ever decide to sell it. :ror:

Find the tractor's serial number on the frame somewhere.

Find the deck's serial number on the deck somewhere.

Call your local orange dealer and get them to run a tractor model search on the 48" deck that fits your mower. They should be able to give you a list of tractors who's 48" decks fit your mower.

Search Craigslist for blown up or generally shitty mower with proper deck.

Decide its not worth the hassle, get some beers and a plasma cutter.
