Hot ESC but cool motor - gearing or bigger ESC?

In my Clone Hammers I'm running the stock 540 can. I didn't have any failures with the original ESC, but I wanted to upgrade the servo, which meant replacing everything due to the integrated receiver/ESC/Servo controller. I used a Hobbyking 45A brushed ESC that I had previously used in my son's Circuit without issue. The ESC burned up on the first run in the Clone Hammers. I assumed it was a fluke, since the Clone Hammers should have substantially less load than the stadium truck it lived in previously. I replaced it with a cheap brushed ESC that I wanted to try out. It's made by whoever makes the Hobbystar/GoolRC stuff. On the first run with that, it kept going into thermal protection, and on my 2nd outing I noticed a dramatic slowdown of the vehicle over the course of the afternoon. I think that ESC is about to die.

Now that I played with junk, this time I'm more inclined to just install a Hobbywing ESC, but I want to make sure that I don't just burn up another one. The truck is geared lower than it was originally, and I kept the 2 speed transmission in low gear for the duration of its use. The motor remains at ambient temperature. The heat sink on the ESC is quite warm, but not scorching hot. I plan to pull the motor out and make sure that the drivetrain doesn't have some sort of hidden issue, but considering that the motor is cool, I don't think I'll find a problem. Based on how low the truck is geared, and how cool the motor is, it's clear that this setup isn't pulling much current through the ESC, so I'm inclined to think that the ESC is simply inadequate.

Any other opinions?

Here's the link to the ESC:

The 2-3 amps devoted to the servo is creating enough heat to make a 60A ESC go into thermal shutdown?

Yeah I had a shifting servo set incorrectly and was driving the temps way up. Re-adjusted endpoints and the heat went away immediately.

The HW WP-1040 on the Gen7 I used on the same trails at the same time seemed to be quite happy and never got warm. It's probably time to get a HW ESC for the Clone Hammers, and double check that all of my steering works nice and freely.

Thanks for the infos.
