If you haven't built and run a Tamiya kit you are missing out, period.

If you don't like the retro kits build one of their on road kids. They make top notch products.

They are probably more popular overseas, but they sure aren't unpopular in the US especially in the on road segment.

I don't know why this is turning into a Traxxas hate thread again. Traxxas was a racing company, but they haven't been in decades. Why would they market their bashers on a track? That wouldn't make any sense. They make bashing videos to market their bashers - imagine that!

Many vehicles have proven Traxxas isn't a joke, but in case you needed a reminder they presented the TRX-4.

So can we move back to the topic now?

I think you misinterpreted what I was getting at. Not bashing Traxxas(no pun intended). Was just stating their transformation from just another ho hum racing R/C to the powerhouse in bashing they are today.

I absolutely HATE how companies feel like nostalgia factor is a good reason to raise the prices on products that have no actual increases in performance / quality to justify the price hike.

I don't think it is all nostalgia. Even though they are old tech, they still cost money to manufacture. It's a shame though... I thought of buying a Grasshopper when they were under $100 just for fun. That was the car a lot of people had back in the early 80s. At $130, I'm not so sure.

On a side note... If memory serves, the Grasshopper was ~$135 back in the 80s. That is $320 adjusted for inflation.

I think people like to hate on Traxxas cause they are the big kid on the streets. Theyve kinda gotten stale on some platforms, having not updated their short course truck platform in about 10 years. But they updated the ERevos, the Maxx trucks, and hit it out of the park with the TRX-4. I personally love my Slash, but I would like to see an update/upgrade to the 4x4 slash and stampede. As for Tamiya, I was but a wee lad in the 80s so I never heard of them. To be honest tho until I got into RC in the last 7 months or so I hadnt heard of any of the companies outside of researching online.

I definitely misinterpreted your comments. Sorry!

A lot of Tamiya kits are a tough sell now - at least for me. But apparently a lot of others would agree. Consumers are in control. Stop buying Tamiya and they'll get the hint if everybody follows and the sales drop drastically. Emailing them and telling them why you're not buying is even more effective.

Don’t a lot of places run a spec Slash class?

Yeah my local hobbytown runs a plex stock spec slash class, but across the board they are having less and less racers even show up. They canceled Friday and Saturday races because no one was showing up. Probably has something to do with the 40$ entry fee, and only winning a 50$ gift card for first place....The house always wins

I admittedly hate Amazon, but if we stop buying from online hobby shops and go to Amazon we will put them out of business just like we have with most LHS. Just a thought...

Tamiya is actually supposed to report these listings, as they violate MAP policy. In theory, MAP pricing is supposed to level the playing field between large, small and online merchants.

In theory. What it turns out to be is price gouging. And there are always vendors that don't follow MAP.

The majority of my vehicles are Tamiya. Always have been for 30 years. Not sure they will be going forward though...That's a heck of a price increase.

I get it, I understand why they are doing it, but part of why i bought them were they were relatively affordable kits. I'd get them through Tower with the discount, and I bought TONS of them over the years. No joke, I've probably built about 100-150 kits. I enjoy building them (nothing goes together like a Tamiya....) Run them a bit or put them on the shelf, then sell them off, and buy some more and start building. Rinse and repeat. Heck, I just sold off 7 of them over the past month or so.

Times change I guess, but doesn't look like I'll be building many more. Some of the prices aren't too bad - not sure why they have wild price swings with the TT02's, but $430 for a Sand Scorcher? $250 now for a CC01 kit? (Without bearings I might add) and $430 for the RTR?? Ouch. Lots of good vehicles out there for that price.

*sigh*

Seriously. I had so many Tamiya kits in my wishlist.

Kyosho Re-res now looks like an even better deal now. At least their re-releases came with upgrades.

Do you buy from RPP? They have an amazon store. Amain? amazon store. RC Work Shop in CA? Amazon store. Its just like with LHS, if they dont adapt to the new way they get left behind. Its not a terrible thing.

:x, no more tamiya kits for me:cry:, i had planned on yet another clod and was looking for the perfect f1 car, but at those prices plus my import duty taxes...fuggetabout it...

Damn, I needed a chassis for my Lancia Stratos.

I suppose I'll be running it on a competitor's AWD chassis converted to RWD.

The clod is up to $400+. Ouch. Plus bearings, servo and radio. Last one I bought new was $259 a few years ago.

The Hilift trucks went up $200! I was debating another one..had one years ago when the crawler/scaler thing was just getting going - think I could build a far better truck now. But it was a stretch at $440 - it's a hell no at $640.

I've been meaning to do this for years. I just went to amazon to check it out after reading your post and it literally had a pop up asking me if I wanted to start a business account. So I just did. We have a database set up to manage inventory on multiple accounts (holmeshobbies.com, amazon, ebay, etc) so its probably time to do it! Nothing to it but to do it...

Please setup an Amazon store. That will give me another quality place to spend the money in my Amazon Payments account.

If you wish to do business via Amazon's warehouses, have lots of patience on tap. It can be frustrating. I can't speak for doing direct fulfillment through them.

John,

If I go to Amazon it is because I am a prime member and look for prime eligible products. I.E free 2 day shipping. Otherwise I buy from whom ever has it at the right price.

If you are not prepared to get your products into the prime program, then you are not offering a service that we cant already get directly from you, so whats the point?
