I've been doing a ton of research on the difference between the Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster and Torquemaster motors. I want to order one for my Wraith, but not quite sure which one is right for me.

Could someone please tell me what differences I would see (running in my Wraith) between the 2 motors?

From what I've read, the CM has awesome low speed control. Does the TM have good low speed control, or does it just have more torque?

I'm just a little confused by the differences between the 2 motors.

Thanks in advance for your help and info.

I have ran a 21t torquemaster and a 13t crawlmaster in my wraith, honestly I loved both! the 21t was fast ans great for bashing but I had to keep an eye on temps. while the 13t was still pretty quick I felt it was a little better suited for the wraith as I got a good bit more crawlablity out of the 13t than the 21.

I would still be running the 13t and the Holmes Hobbies BR-xl controller had I not had a very cheap opertunity to go brushless. I went with a tekin Brushless 13.5t system best of both world IMO.

the diffrence between them is the crawlmaster's 5 slot armature vs. the torquemaster's 3 slot. the 3 slot is faster (per turn), has better drag brake, and a little more "punch" where the strong suits of the crawlmaster are much better low speed start up and smoother control, with a 13t still being able to be quick in the wraith.

but depending if you are more set on bashing than crawling would determine what motor you should get.

crawling I would get either 16t crawlmaster or a 40- 45t torquemaster
bashing I would get a 13t crawlmaster.

I'm using the 16T Crawlmaster in my Wraith and can't compare it to the equivalent Torquemaster yet. The kv on the 16T is 1850 and the 35T TM is 1565, so something around a 30T will likely be a comparable kv (got one on order for another build to compare). The 16T with lowered gearing (56/13 32P) is outstanding and I've never had a heat issue. Excellent low end as well as a top end that's way faster than I need.

I can't speak to the drag brake difference. I have the BRXL ESC and the drag is set to 80% and it works very well. Never had to use the "Holmes Hold", so there's lots of additional drag available.

My Wraith weighs in at 8.5 lbs and I couldn't be more pleased with this combination.

I've been looking at the CM Pro Team Edition motor (16t).

Do the CM motors require break-in? On the HH website, it states that the TM motors have already been broken in, ready for immediate installation. It doesn't state that for the CM motors. I've done some searches on here, and haven't found any info saying that they do or don't.

Thanks for the info on the CM and TM motors!

HH site has all the info and specs on the motors. maybe a good place to start. even has info on break in.
