heinie_21's RCMODELex ARB Hilux

I like how scale this rig looks. No huge monster truck tires... looks like something you'd see somebody driving down the street in.

Thanks man! That was kinda the goal actually. Explode it to 1:1 size and it would be street legal. Someone's daily driver even, but a sweet weekend warrior.

Looks like someone got bit by the scale bug!!!:lmao: Nice Class 1 rig you got there. I'm REALLY digging that ARB bumper. Looks like I gotta get rid of some extra tires and electronics etc...also and build up my paypal so I can order some axles and one of those bumpers.... I've had my Hilux in pieces for way to long. Kinda miss the super scale look and the way leaf springs drive. Nice work"thumbsup"

I might be converting this to leafs eventually, but I think it will stay like this for some time. I just like it too much right now.

One thing I've noticed is it's a bit top heavy. The whole rig is heavy in the first place. This actually makes it handle more like a 1:1! Abrupt movements like slipping off a wedge produce a couple slow rocks back and forth out of the body. Way more body sway than lexan tops. I like it! It might negatively affect it In a comp situation but for now I'm enjoying it.

I added an extension to the shell's window latch. it will hold the window closed better now. with this shell you literally turn the handle to open the window. i love it.

printed out a test sheet of license plates. i plan on just laminating them with tape, and probably super-glueing them on.

So i ordered a Cast Yota front axle and some XVD's for this rig. this front K-44 has been for sale for a little while and is now sold, so that money helped me buy the matching front, xvd's and partly paid for another 4:1 GRU that will go in my cc-01 FJ-Cruiser! I havn't gotten a shipping confirmation from rc4wd and it's now been 24 hours. does anybody know if they are actually SHIPPING out the cast fronts yet? they stay "in stock" but i wonder still. hmm I hope it gets here by saturday! probably wont though. my rig is gonna have to sit axle-less when i ship out the k-44 haha. blast.

Nice build Heinie! That thing is SO realistic looking. I love all of the little details you have added. Need a cooler and a tent in the roof rack maybe. Planning on a winch?

Awesome rig you´ve built!!!

Thanks man!

Thanks! I like your 2dr jk build. Reminds me of my friend steele42's jk. I totally need a tent. Maybe a cooler too but I don't really like any coolers on the market atm.

And I am planning on a winch. I have a wanted ad out there for a dummy 3racing winch. And if that doesn't work I have a winch in my shopping cart at rpphobby.con Haha.

Very tastefully done man. Good work..
Thanks I love to hear that other people think the same thing I do. Usually beauty is in the eye of the builder Haha.

Thanks...I have some big plans for it. I've checked Steeles out too, sweet rig.
By the looks of your skills maybe try making a cooler outta styrene.;-)

Sounds like you need to get us a video so we can see the scaleness of it driving. The thing sounds like a blast to drive. I always like a little challenge and not go monkeyin' up everything in sight.

Yeah I do! I just got a gopro so o will be making a movie this week. Just waiting for my cast yota front cuz I sold the k44 I had on the front of this. It will be here tomorrow though.

Bring the GoPro this weekend and we'll get some good shots at the dunes.

you know it. it's charged and ready to go. we might need some duck tape to mount it lol.

so i threw on some other tires the other day. they're pretty small. ( think they're 3.6". they used to be on my FJ-Cruiser, but i traded that off. sad day, i know, but i have mrc plans! haha)

the k44 that was on this got sold! I loved how it looked on here, but the different gear ratios weren't ideal. kinda killed the steering. And i was able to buy a cast front yota, and xvd's with the k44 money! So it worked out fine for me i guess. I immeditely tore down the new axle to see its' inner workings and to install the xvd's. they improved steering a lot it seems.

i also shortened the top links a bit to give me a better caster without having to extend my lowers and mess up my wheelbase.

I was pretty surprised when i called my LHS to see if by chance they had one of these:
422896_3325168415268_1450115562_3111879_360975642_n.jpg

this is used on the rc4wd GRU. it changes it's output shaft from a standard mod1 (3.17mm) output to 5mm. 5mm is the size of most 1:10 crawler stuff. like axial trannies, axles, rc4wd axles and trannies, maybe even losi 1.9 crawlers too. i know the losi MRC uses 4mm outputs though, so they're different.
here it is mounted to the GRU:
429147_3325345339691_1450115562_3111920_1699782367_n.jpg

it fits very well.
