HB Rover Review

I'm currently running a Scorpion ARTR with these tires, I also have a split 8 cell battery pack on the front axle. My tires are rubbing on the batteries at full lock. Has anyone else noticed this? I plan to add the servo mount tray to run a lipo in the near future. Should this add more clearance?

Th only way to fix that is to run a wider offset or wheel wideners. Personally I haven't done anything about it. I just let them rub.

My almost favorite foams in these have been Axial stock foam plus a thin strip... but they rolled pretty bad in front and it was like driving on marshmallows in times when I needed precise handling.

I tried Panther softs with a 1/2 in narrowed off today and a channel cut in the backs. These are on 1.25 wide wheels.
  • the height is taller due to less sag
  • the fronts dig better and harder
  • these make the tire wide with a flat tread surface
  • there is a big air gap in the channeled foams
The rear doesn't climb as well as with the stocks or the Axials. It seems these tires need a rounder profile to get the best bite. I'm going to leave the fronts as is and rework the rears. I'll update soon. "thumbsup"

A little input

So I am fairly new but not really, I'm running the HB's and they're awesome. I had to change the foams a bit though. I actually used the stock memory foams from my hammers and then cut a 1 in. wide disc out of the foams that came with the HB's and started with the inside of the tire. I pushed the memory foams towards the inside of the truck and then slid the disc I cut out inside and pressed up against the other foams. This filled the tire a little more as well as gave me the softness I needed but also gave me the rigidity I needed for side hilling. I'm also running one strip of weights insde the proline eight shooter in the front which also pushes the foams out even a little more. No weight in the back. I also have a 3 cell lipo with my servo over the front end for weight and performance purposes. This seams to be the best formula I've found to get the most out of my wheels, works great for my rig. Just my two cents.......

That's the same set up i have; split8 on the axles, and the same concern i have too. I also plan to get high steering knuckles so i'm sure i'm hitting the limit with how things are now...8-(

foams

Has anyone tried the blue dots with LOSI memory foams????
I know of a guy that has white dots with Losi memory foams and about 6 oz of weight per tire (i believe).. he seems to really like that set-up

i'm thinking of trying them but the blues in the rear and the whites up front - using a dmg with drooped shocks but if i were to change to a tvp or raise my carrage from 2.7 to 3, i'd probably not go with such a tall tire...riding the fence again.

I may have to pick up some of these tires with the Vanquish foam system. I'd definately like a little more ground clearance because the Hammers seem a lot smaller. "thumbsup"

Drat. Where exactly do they rub? Pics? Is it bad enough to worry about or is it only once and awhile under very certain full steer/susp conditions?

i personally would like to see a stiffer sidewall near the bead for us that have 1.25"wide beadlocs and then two stage foams and still at the 10.00 per tire cost. maybe a 2" firm with a 4" soft mem foam...but hey, i'm a nuub.

Noob or not, all good suggestions. We appreciate everyone’s ideas and will take them all into consideration on the next tire. – Thanks"thumbsup"

FYI......I tried the Aces Donuts for oversized tires and they suck.:x Way too soft. Won them at a comp and glad I didn't have to pay for them because they are not what I was looking for.

Ok..I have to say I may have rushed to judgement on the Aces Donuts foams. After running them a little more they are better then I first thought. Still a little soft for me but, they don't suck like I first reported. I still don't like memory foams but these work ok."thumbsup"

its not wha i did, but i saw this in another thread,

homeboy cut sides out of cardboard, and squished mem. foams between 2 carboard sides.

seems like a keen idea for any soft tire and foam combo

pdog, just delete your old post and talk about the things you like on these so the air around you is cleared up. just sayin'.

the sidewall idea is great. couldn't you just paint the edges of the foams with some silicone or liquid latex and then let them dry?

I dont see why that isnt a great idea, but yea, thats me. lol

i sealed my rims up so that there is some airpressure in the tire, and these sidhill better than my original claws.

what i'd like to see is red. you know, like my WTB mtn bike tires. just feel that a loose knob with a stiffer rubber would grab and if you could add red to the mix, even that much more sick, just like the mtn bike tires.
