Does a 3 slot brushed motor offer any advantages over a 5 slot motor of similar design and kv?

As far as the ESC goes, the Mamba X for sensored is the best available IMO.Would you recommend a 2200 kV Puller Pro Standard or Stubby for a RC4WD Beast 2 on 3S? I’m getting ready for a build this fall - looking for low speeds and may gear down from stock. Could I expect smooth startup with these motors and a Sidewinder 4? I also considered the Mamba X, but I’ve used one before and would like to try something different - try to do this with each new build. How about the HW QuicRun QR10BL120? The specs look nice and it’s sensored, but I haven’t seen anyone use it in a crawler. I’m sorry to see that the BLE Pro is not still offered ... would go with it instead!

Not much in a motor that would cause that unless a bearing is seizing. Geartrain binding, radio settings, radio quality, ESC quality, those are more typical causes. The stock radio on the wraith 1.9 gave me a lot of fits and surges until I replaced it.
I had the same problem with a hobbywing brushless sensored ESC with a Tekin motor. Switched out the hobbywing ESC per John Holmes recommendation and the surging went away. What kind of esc, radio are you running? What would cause surging @ low throttle settings when running on level ground, or even downhill? Brushed Trailmaster motor.
Hey John, ive got a trailmaster 550 21t in my scx10, I'd like to upgrade to something that has smoother power delivery, low speed control and very little loss of speed when crawling. I'm debating between a revolver and a 540 magnum. Thoughts?
