Unfortunately, that's just the startup of most hobbywing products. The only smooth thing they have is the AXE, and the system is proprietary so you can't swap out motors to another brand.

I have a 1/8 Super with 2 Holmes BR-XL ESC's. coupled to 2 Holmes crawlmaster magnum 540's.... wahoo right

I just changed out my receiver to use a new remote (Futaba 4grs). I have tried to calibrate the ESC by holding up on the throttle and waiting for the chimes, the problem is that both ESC's do not seem to power up at the same time now. I can not remove an ESC to calibrate individually without soldering. Previously I would hear 2 chimes in succession indicating it was ready to go. After changing the receiver, the 2nd chime might take 30 seconds before i hear it....

I put old receiver back in and using old radio, all electronics are functioning. is it possible to calibrate both ESC's for the new remote? I am having weird problems (wheels keep turning, digs not working) and am hoping this might help solve some of them.

Or, any advice on how / why the ESC's no longer power up sequentially?

What do you have you throttle proportioning to?
I have a PLS, and run the BRMD.
What I ended up doing was calibrate each separately using only channel two, one esc at a time. If I remember I pulled one red wire after doing the calibration .
The instructions say you can’t calibrate them together. I didn’t separate mine.

Upgrading Gen7. Switched out motor to a HH Torquemaster Expert. Changed ESC to a HW 1080.
I cant get the HW to bind to the throttle. First I had steering, then nothing. Rebound the receiver to transmitter (all stock). Steering is back. I tried rebinding the esc to receiver/transmitter many times. Once it goes into the detection mode and I hit set for the neutral it just stops responding. I can program all with esc settings the LED box but its the throttle thats not doing squat.
Need replacement esc? is it radio/transmitter? Will new receiver work with stock transmitter?

Unplug the servo (if it's bad it can cause issues), make sure throttle is not reversed and check throttle endpoints if they are not detected as zero esc starts in protected mode, shouldent matter during calibration but do it).

Lets say you have a 3 slot motor and you have a 5 slot motor and apart from the motor slots, the motors are built relatively the same.
Same size bearings, same dimensions on the rotor, same thickness on comm, same brushes and magnets etc.

The 3 slot design is a 35t version
And the 5 slot design is a 16t version.

Generally speaking which has...

Better efficiency
Lower temperatures when under load
Longer life of brushes
Higher kv / rpm
Higher stall torque
Better drag brake

I have the RC4WD XR4 Rx.
I used it on my bully when equipped with the stock dig. When I went to the BRMD it wouldn’t work, so I upgraded to my Futaba.

Now I’ve set it up for the wife’s truck and want a winch. So my servo winch with my HeyOk controller was hooked up. Now when switching it will only work in one direction.
I suspect the switch type is wrong.
Anyone replace one of these ?

I think it’s a two pole switch, and I need a “stepped”??

Got a Puller pro 3500 from a friend that had problems .. It turns barely a quarter round forward and same backwards, with or without sensor.. I tried it on a esc that I use for another PP so I know its the motor that is bad.. Also gets warm instantly.. It's clean inside.. What can be the problem?

I have looked in my manual and do not see "throttle proportioning". Sorry, I am still pretty new, even 3 years in... My throttle curve is default, linear.

I built a harness that did not have the red wire connected for the ESC. Now they just both beep at me. Replaced the original working receiver and am getting the same results (no steering, no throttle). Is it possible I blew my ESC(s)?
Just bought a Castle Link. Maybe it can tell me something...?

UPDATE: I just found out the battery that was good yesterday is now bad. 1.5v in cell. Problems persist with new good battery.

If you have dual esc's hook them up one at a time. Calibrate them that way. And before you say ug that's too much work. It's less work then buying 2 new esc's and rewiring everything.

Why are the ESCs soldered together like that? You said you had two motors. Normally the 2 ESCs are used one per motor so that you can mix the throttles like under/overdrive and DIG functions.

How are you running two motors from one plug?

No or low voltage didn’t take anything out.

Your picture shows 4 channels used.
1 for steering
2 esc 1
3 esc 2
4 second servo or I’m lost.

My 2 BRMDs are soldered together from Holmes.

I use
1 for RxBypass to servo.
2 is front esc
3 is rear esc

My futaba has a MOA mode and mixes channel 2and 3 so I can prop ornately adjust them

We need to know everything if you want correct advice.

it was the receiver. i had shredded previous esc and i shorted the receiver channel.

I was looking at this picture, and just realized that I have not connected the red wire on the front esc. (But the dig worked with the Futaba 4PL as it is)


My Receiver:
1 front steer
2 front esc
3 rear steer
4 rear esc

I verified via castle link that the BR-XL's were still ok. the digs are still not working.

I have a Futaba T4GRS.

the PROG MIX Screen is set as follows:
MODE: ON; FWRD: +100; BRAK: +100; MST: THR; SLV: CH4;
MXMD: ON; TRIM: OFF

DUAL ESC is set:
MODE: ACT
RATE: 100<R
MXMD: ON <R
TRIM: OFF <R

I have a Futaba 4PLS and 4PL which work just fine. I am not sure why I can not alter the front / rear dig on this controller.
