Take a look at this, the S.O.B. isn't giving up.

U.S. Representative Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) recently sponsored H.R. 45, also known as "Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act." The bill is, at its core and as its name implies, a licensing and registration scheme.

The measure calls for all handgun owners to submit to the federal government an application that shall include, among many other things: a photo; an address; a thumbprint; a completed, written firearm safety test; private mental health records; and a fee. And those are only some of the requirements to be licensed!

The bill would further require the attorney general to establish a database of every handgun sale, transfer, and owner's address in America. Moreover, the bill would make it illegal to own or possess a "qualifying firearm" -- defined as "any handgun; or any semiautomatic firearm that can accept any detachable ammunition feeding device…" [emphasis added] without one of the proposed licenses.

Additionally, the bill would make it illegal to transfer ownership of a "qualifying firearm" to anyone who is not a licensed gun dealer or collector (with very few exceptions), and would require "qualifying firearm" owners to report all transfers to the attorney general's database. It would also be illegal for a licensed gun owner to fail to record a gun loss or theft within 72 hours, or fail to report a change of address within 60 days. Further, if a minor obtains a firearm and injures someone with it, the owner of the firearm may face a multiple-year jail sentence.

H.R. 45 is essentially a reintroduction of H.R. 2666, which Rush introduced in 2007. H.R. 2666 contained much of the same language as H.R. 45, and was co-sponsored by several well-known anti-gun legislators--including Barack Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel. H.R. 45 currently has no co-sponsors.

Rest assured that NRA-ILA will continue to monitor this bill closely, and will keep you informed of any developments if they materialize.

So they're saying that crazy young felons shouldn't be able to get weapons, registered or otherwise? And legal gun owners are going to be held responsible for the storage and whereabouts of thier shootin' irons?

Damn. What is this country coming to?

The day that it hits the anti-gun crowd that more gun laws only affect the law abiding gun owners, who aren't the gun problem, let me know.

Someone show an honest and accurate means to keep firearms away from the outlaws, and I will then pay attention.

Gun laws are a lot like "how to use your dick" laws................if you are using it as you should, you don't need legalization to use it. The a-holes that use it incorrectly are the fawk ups, and laws need to be written to go after them, not everyone with a dick.

Crooks will get guns no matter what the government does!!! The honest people will eventually have to turn theirs in or face charges and or jail time one day!!!

I will give mine up "When they pry it out of my cold dead hands"

Cut thier trigger fingers off. If that won't work, take the whole hand.

Very true. No matter how hard we make it for them to perform the f-up, they will always find a way.

There's nothing wrong with keeping gun owners responsible, nor is there with keeping guns out of the hands of those who really shouldn't have one. But like you said, there needs to be some real, stiff penalties if you don't play by the rules. The bad guys don't seem to be afraid of prison anymore.

This is just the type of thing I have been barking about to you guys about! It won't pass......but we will have a new "Ban" coming our way soon.....stock up now.

If they're like one of my managers as well as alot of people in this part of Illinois, they won't be smart enough to figure it out:-(

I disagree with these kinds of bills. I think there should be some sort of safety device built into the guns themselves-like a fingerprint scanner on the grip, which is tied into the trigger. If the wrong fingerprint is on the scanner, the trigger can't be pulled. Plain and simple.

That tech is out now....But I don't want my life to depend on weather or not the scanner can read my print at the time I need it. All that will do is have the bad guys trying to cut our fingers off. The answer is to arm more good guys! Look up Kennesaw Ga. http://www.rense.com/general9/gunlaw.htm

This is what you do to drop crime"thumbsup" And it works!

Like the guy who participated in this: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,485924,00.html

Or rapists. Or child molesters. Or Tom Arnold for sticking it to Rosanne Barr.

And Robb, the problem isn't Illinois; the problem is Chicago and it's suburbs. Glass-pave Cook County, IL and things will be much better.

How would you get the guns from the criminals to install this device?
Jay

we have been dealing with this in Il for as long as I have been a gun owner/alive. Not thats it a good thing by any means but, I have gotten used to it.
Personally, I think all law abiding citizens should be armed. An armed citizen is a safe citizen. Unfortunatly as long as Crook County exists Il will never have a carry law. At least we got rid of Anti Gun Blago.

Now I know I'm not an American and that has it advantages but what's the problem?

I consider my self a perfectly safe driver but I still going to take my driving test, pay my road tax and pay insurance. What's the problem with registering your guns and selling them responsibly? There should be no problem unless you've got something to hide.
