Good shock option

5+ years in on a bully ll kit, love it, been a great vehicle for me. No comps, just bashing trails and woods. I had some cheap redcat shocks from the old RS10 on it and surprisingly, they've been great. Snapped the plastic shock body on 1 so I'm looking to finally upgrade those shocks.

So my question is, anyone have some good shock opinions and where to best (as in cheapest) place to get them? I run desert lizards on a couple other trucks I have and I like them so I'm leaning towards them but I'm totally open to other options. All opinions welcome. Thanks

Unfortunately shock prices are ridiculous. I’m all about budget and have tried cheap sets of shocks with terrible results. I was given a set of expensive shocks at one point and they leaked just as bad as the cheap ones. Though they did cycle smoother. I ended up trading them to a buddy for some stock Trx-4 shocks. My suggestion is the Traxxas GTS shocks. I use green slime when I build them and have had great results with them. I will definitely be watching this thread as I’m in need of a set of shocks for my OG dingo.

Another vote for the Traxxas GTS shocks that come on the TRX4. Smooth and leak free and a set of 4 takeoffs on eBay are around $50 bucks. Well worth the money. I have these on a few of my rigs and have zero complaints.

Another shock that can be found at a great price is the Vanquish S8E shocks. Takeoffs can be found for about $35 bucks. Most people don’t like these because the spew oil when they are new. When built correctly, these are a great smooth shock that doesn’t leak. I currently have 7 sets of these on my rigs and they are my go to shock.

I love the axial exo terra shox. Hard anodized bodies, caps and collars also hard nitride shock shafts. The only thing that I don’t like is the lower spring retainer isn’t clamping style.

I've had very good experiences with the long travel SCX3/Capra shocks, they've always worked very well for me (when oiled properly). You could probably get a set for cheap on eBay (like $25-$35).

Agreed with Traxxas GTS shocks. They are great. Remember, the DLux shocks started out as modified Traxxas 2660 big bore shocks.

AE builds great buggy shocks and I'd like to try the Element FT shocks if they were sold cheaper.

Yeah, forgot to mention the AE Element shocks. Great shocks that are super smooth and leak free. I have kept the stock Element shocks on all of my Element rigs. Was no reason to swap them out.

Just got done a base camp builders kit and I like the shocks that came with it. Built them with green slime and no leaks so far. They are long/tall though. My original trx4 shocks are awesome that are in my .og 10.2 trail honch and the vanquish shocks that are in my builders kit Tacoma are great but I’m pretty sure the oil, leaked out of them early on.

i cant for the life of me justify spending alot of money on shocks the way i see it they all do the same thing
1 set ride hight
2 limit up and down traval
everything else shocks do is opinion and preference
as far as leaking it seems they all leak about 5 years ago i gave up on shock oil and just use a dab of greese inside the shock to keep them lubricated and just a hair of dampening
im used to it now and prefer them set up that way now

I use element shocks and only for the reason below. Tuning with these custom shock pistons makes things a lot easier

I ended up going with desert lizards for a couple reasons.

1. I use them on other rigs and like them. Have zero issues with them. I do run them upside down and I won't be able to on the bully ll due to clearance issues so leakage is my only concern with them.

2. Cost

3. Slim profile and internal springs

I ordered some of these

Damn the quality on those things though! 😲 He didn't even bother trying to hide the burrs and complete lack of clean cuts/machining.

Let me know how those red dampers work. I considered picking up a set off of Ali, being they're only $6. Im not a big fan of the gigantic spring cup though!

Those burrs on those shock parts and crap may come off during "tumbling", aka shipping and not be an issue, lol.

Will do. And you know I'll be honest! 🤣

Probably, but it is super lazy not removing them for the product photo. And some of the cuts just look less than "machined". More like chewing. LOL

A product pic like that is simply enough for me not to order as a would be possible first time customer.

:) Some of them needed some cleaning up...not as bad it seems though. With some of heavy rigs i run using these and heavy shock oil or even diff fluid works well

But like JimC said, the product pics are enough to make me not order from that company. I think the photo speaks volumes even if the cleanup is easy.

Just shows me the company doesn't care enough so why should I care to buy ... at least edit the pics but nope, just don't care enough about the customer period ... what that product pic tells me

I have no choice, the only game in town:) and they do throw in a file in every package...so they must care somewhat. haha
and the product works well and is made of derlin. If someone else takes the time to manufacture these little Derlin shock pistons to perfection for the same price, then i'll order from them instead:) These are just toys though and these work just fine for now!
