Does anyone know if theres an portal axle I can swap for the front.....the stock center diff really hangs up a lot and I feel like an offset pumpkin would fix the issue

I haven't measured, but I presume the SSD Front axles would be the right width. I have both here. I'll take some measurements.

Problem is the pumpkin will hang up sometimes regardless of it being in the center or offset. It still hangs low, just in a different spot. Sure being closer to the wheel will lift the pumpkin from the one side, but it will stay low when the other side is lifted.

You could swap axles. But you may be better off adding a small skid. The RC axles do have some flat sharp edges that hang up.
so I hear ya loud and clear. Though shifting the pumpkin only shifts the low spot.

Seem to remember seeing a metal skid for the pumpkin, just don't remember if it was for the RC or something else.

Sure Gen8 axles have sharper pumpkin cover compare to most, but that can be easily dealt with a file. Hang up is part of the game ... you have to adjust your driving style to your truck and conditions ... it doesn't hang up because of its axle, it hangs up because your driving line is not appropriate for your truck.

It's my wifes truck not mine....my rig dominates everything.... she just got into the rc world so yes she needs more driving practice however that being said this pumpkin is bulky as all get out.... I'd like to see a Currie version or something a little rounder....

I plan on getting her a skid plate too help her out a bit....

That being said you would think with all the new crawler tech that has dropped recently that redcat would have at least addressed that issue.... dont get me confused it's a great rig but a 3 link with panhard with a centered diff is just asking for hangups driver skill or not that's a lot of pieces that hang a little low for my liking....

Most companies ditched center pumpkins awhile ago... eh guess I'm being too picky...

On another note I think the drive shafts should have a better angle off the axle as well it should be angled up slightly....its better protected that way and it puts less strain on the drive shaft and transmission

the gen 8 dosent have a centered pumpkin its offset as much as its compitition and.has a smaller pumpkin than say a trx4 i hardly ever hit mine and it surely dosent hang me up

the way i see it you have 3 options

1 get a new diff cover that has less hang up points

2 swap out what ever axles as a set that you feel is.a better axle

3 run bigger tires the gen8 can run up to 5.75" tire with no other mods i personaly like a 5" tire

4 tell your wife to learn to drive the darn thing not much of a option realy

Um, there's already a clearance advantage just having the portal axles so if she's getting hung up that much then I have to agree with the others. You probably need to help highlight the strengths of the truck and what lines would suit her setup better. Oh and to be honest the only time I get hung up on the diff is if there's a pointed rock sticking up from the ground that I didn't expect / see. Otherwise it climbs, crawls, and trails just fine with very little modification. I'm sure it could sidehill a bit better if I added extra weight and etc, but then it really takes away from the scale feel of the truck. We're currently approaching 60 miles on the trucks and I really don't have too many complaints.

since the op rig dominates and telling the wife to do better might discurage her from taking part in the hobby it needs to be as fun as posable for her i would sugest bigger tires and some heavy offsets maybe 10mm wideners and some 5"-5.5" tires might help the only issue is the truck gets tippy with bigger tires so you need to make it wider
theres brass to fix the tippyness if its still to much
also the bigger tires puts more strain on the axle housings knuckles and chubs so they will need upgrading the good news is theres enuff parts out there that you can build a nice custom rig
new decent axles will cost almost as much as the rig itself so i feel upgrading what you have is the best option unless you have money to burn
