Like many I have experienced the Spektrum power button jamming/not working/flattening the battery.
The button has a tab sticking out of the back of it which presses the microswitch which is attached to the PCB that the screen is attached to.
It turns out the problem is the screen can move out of alignment, at which point the tab doesn't bear onto the microswitch - pressing on the body of the switch instead of the button. At this point the button appears to be stuck in the transmitter and has no effect on the power state.
If you take the Tx apart you will see what I mean, the LCD screen (and PCB) can slide up and down in its slot, if the screen stays nearer the top of the window all is good, but if it slips to the bottom it goes out of alignment. The protective outer screen prevents you being able to move the LCD with your finger.
Solution: a thin strip of firm foam rubber, the width (40mm) and depth (10mm) of the LCD screen, and about 5mm thick. Press it in between the screw fixing in the body of the Tx and the LCD screen, this keeps the microswitch in the right place relative to the button. The button feels much more positive and what's more - it works.
