Finally got some time to work on a truck I picked up last year. It's Bender's F150. I love trophy trucks and wanted to extend the prerunner theme he had going. I am trying to preserve the orginial frame as much as I can can with few welds to the frame itself. Not sure how I am gonna tie in the sliders with the cage, everything is still a work in progress.
Started doing some tubing up front. I would like to stick a parma hemi in there with a 7T shoe horned in as well going to a transfer case. It's gonna be tight. The stanchions coming off the tube cage were just for temp mounting purposes, they will be coming off. Also made a lightbar for the roof
More cross supports, trying not to get to rediculous. Still need to get the firewall bracing in.
Started trying to figure out the rear tubing. I am going to keep the original bed, so these are mainly for looks only. I may cut the bed out on a new body later down the road. I picked up 2 more F150 bodys before they went out of production. $13 a piece and free shipping at hobbyetc =)
I bent the right side with ease. I liked the way it look. I could not for the life of me replicate the mirror image. I must have bent up about 3ft of tubing trying to get the compounds right. Finally got it close enough and said hell with it. Brazing looked like arse, solid 3/16 to solid 1/4 took all my torch could throw out, I had the regulators wide open. Once I sand blast it, it'll look like the right side.
I may go with a more scale size fuel cell. This is the McCormick pepper can that I planed to use as a starting point. It houses my esc perfectly, but it is a bit big.
The body on frame shot with front bumper and light bar mocked up. Bumper is not hard mounted yet. Sagging a little right now.
More to come later. Probably won't get much progress for a while. Going hunting thursday and have to get ready this week for all that.
Plans to come are maybe some D60 axles. More accessories for the back bed. Full interior, etc. Gotta find some drivers/co-drivers. Lots of stuff still "on the list" but at least I am getting somewhere. And now with daylight savings, not much to do outside before it's dark.
