I would like to upgrade my transmitter, but can't make up my mind. I use spektrum for flying, and I am happy with its performance, but I have heard alot of bad things about there surface stuff. Anyone run one of these with a summit? Are they worth it over the stock radio?

Also anyone running a hitec 7950th in their summit? How is the performance compared to stock? If it makes any difference I am also running a tekin rx8 2250kv in my summit currently.

I customized my speky dx3r to work with my summit. Its true the range sucks compared to the stock system but its much easier to program and change the setting due to the graphic screens and X-Y graph displays. The stock uses flashing lights to adjust everything. You haveto position you rx antennae straight up to get good reception. The stock system works well but its just a radio

I am running the hitec 7980 in my summit with Tekin. Its great but a stiffer stronger servo saver is a must.

I ended up going ahead with a hitec 7950th. I already have the aluminum servo arm, but what are you using for the rest of your setup?

I'll second that the 7980 is the way to go for steering. It's stronger, it's slightly larger size fits better and it's actually cheaper than the 7950.

HS-7980TH Servo

With either the 7950 or the 7980, you're going to want to use an external BEC set at 7.4V to get full power from the servo. Alternatively, you could wire it directly to one of your batteries (assuming you're running 2S's), but then they discharge unevenly.

I'm weird, but I use a DX6i for all my crawlers, as well as my Summit.

Ouch that 7980th does look nice, should have done a little more research on servos. I do have a dx6i for flying, but using a joystick to steer wouldn't feel right to me.

What did you modify on your dx3r to be able to work in your summit ? I have a dx3r pro I run in all my rigs except my summit.
