Dukes of Hazzard the Movie Rant

Is it just me, or is everyone else dissapointed with the casting of the new Dukes of Hazzard movie? Okay, Jessica Simpsion as Dasie and Willy Nelson as Uncle Jessey are pretty good fits, but Johnny Knoxville as Luke Duke? Common, give me a break, no pun intended, but Johnny Knoxville is a "Jackass," and Luke was the brains of the whole thing. I've always been a fan of the Dukes. I had the Dukes big-wheel, track set, hotwheels, (and still have) a Dukes lunchbox, ect. So, I know whats up. I wonder if the directors even watched the show prior to wanting to make this movie. I will still watch it just because I like seeing the General Lee launched 50 feet in the air (watch the trailor) http://www2.warnerbros.com/dukesofhazzard/video.html

But I'm just kind of dissapointed. I feel a little better now that I have vented.

I'm waiting for Netflix becouse this movie doesn't deserve the big screen.
with the cast that is in this spoof I'm pretty sure I'll be diappointed.

26!!! those S.O.B.'s i hated wathing this movie get made it was filmed about 1/2 mile from where i live
 
It was directed by Broken Lizard of Super Troopers fame. Littering and.......Littering and........

I will rent it on DVD. I think paying for the theatre is a bit steep.
 
the new issue of Hot Rod has the full story. apparently most of the Chargers were pretty manky, but they had to be soild enough to be restorable or they'd have broken in half on the ramps.

i remember when the TV series was on the air (i'm not talkin' syndication, remember i'm old) seeing a jump sequence where the poor Charger landed so hard the front fenders and rear quarters visibly buckled. i'd guess the static ride height dropped a couple inches after that jump. and that's just one of many.

the hell of it is, any time you see a nice old car in a movie, you know it's gonna get trashed. like in The Fast and The Furious (one of the lamest movies of all time) there's one decent car (the old Mopar) and a bunch of clownmobile imports (i swear i saw the Japanese team from Cannonball Run in there). so which car do they launch off a ramp to utterly destroy? it sure wasn't the Camry with 10 NAWSS bottles and the My Little Pony graphics.

at least when i destroy a car (old demo derby driver) it's a complete POS. $200 was the most i ever paid, and the only one of them that was even remotely desirable was the '78 T-Bird (and that was desirable only if you have a velvet fetish). and all their engines went to a good cause (sold to hot rodders), except the ones i blew up.

in the Dukes' defense, though, when the TV series was filmed, you could buy '69 Chargers for 500 bucks all day and not make a dent in the supply.

i saw on Ebert and Roeper (sp?) that anyone who was a fan of the original series should not go watch this movie because of language and such.......

i MiGHT rent it when it comes out on DVD, but i doubt it......
 
I went to Knott's Berry Farm on Thursday and saw one of the General Lee's, even signed by John Schneider (played Beau or Bo, or however you spell it). Anyway, it was so sweet to see the Charger there in all it's glory without even moving.......then the guy hit the Dixie horn.......I was in heaven. They can't, and never will make a car like that again, ESPECIALLY not that piece of crap they duct-taped the Charger name onto, ticks me off more than Pontiac screwing over the GTO name with a HSV Monaro. :roll:

As for the movie, forget it. I liked the TV show despite seriously hokey story lines and dialogue that could be repeated by just about any 3 year old, but refuse to shell out the cash for it just because they re-used and re-made a TV show that was fine just as a TV show. I would probably see it if someone else (i.e. -- my dad) would foot the bill for it, but I still don't buy into the crappy casting. Burt Reynolds as "Boss Hogg"?!?! The guy in the TV show was short, fat, and bald.......good old Burt only has one of those things going for him. ;) And Johnny Knoxville as Luke Duke?!?! So sad.......

Couldn't have said it any better.

I grew up watchin the real Dukes and nothing will ever hold a candle to that. The only cast member that I think they picked somewhat apropriately was Willy Nelson as Uncle Jesse.

And whats up with these people who butchered Waylon Jennings song "good ol boys" by remixing it with rap????!!!!!!!!! Poor Waylon prolly turned over in his grave :(
 
I'm not saying that it will be a great movie or anything, but the setting sapost to be placed in more modern time.

Im so diapointed in the previews.
The onley one they casted right was willie nelson as uncle jessie. As for stiffler an joni knox I thinck they can both take a flying leap off a short pier. An it sucks the trashed 26 of the cars.
As for simpson Id $%@# her all nite long because thats all she has talent for.
An burt renolds as boss hog. Dani devito would be a better pick for boss hog.
I just feel they took a great show an made a @#$#ing sorrey lame @#$ movie.
I dout I even rent it on dvd.
I hope it flops at the box office.

OK let me clarify this for those not tuning in to the program until now.

Waylon Jennings did the SHOW theme song. Willie Nelson remade the theme for the MOVIE.

Got it!

Waylon also narrated the original series too. He was what got the show on TV to begin with because of his notoriety
