Drag Wagon build

Fresh off the printer, went to together quite well.

Bearing spacers, they hold the bearings centered.

Wheelybar fully assembled.

Wheelybar installed on the chassis.

Version 2 is already in the works, I have an idea how I could further simplify it.

Wheely bar 2.0, After assembling the first one I didn't really like how many parts it took to make, so I did a little simplifying to remove the 4 plates. I think it makes for a slightly cleaner look. I also stiffened up the middle support piece, the original one worked fine but it flexed a little bit too much for my liking.

Thanks, I'm enjoying the build, I do CAD work for a living so I've always enjoyed modeling things. Getting a 3D printer has really opened up a whole new world for my RC hobby now that I can make my models a reality.

I went with the Prusa i3 Mk3, it's been a great machine so far. I haven't owned any others though, so I can't say for certain if it's the best. I liked the fact that you could get the kit version and build it yourself. My buddy had one first so I decided to copy him, figured we could bounce ideas off each other and troubleshoot problems easier.

Finally after painting, trimming, and more trimming, and gluing, I have a completed body. Results are pretty decent, a few flaws in the paint but overall it came out good.
I decided on Tamiya Corsa Grey for the color. The Pandora decals are certainly not my favorite to work with, they aren't very forgiving. The rear bumper does not seem to fit the body either, not sure what the deal is there, I keep trimming more and more away but it still seems to be way to narrow to fit around the rear body. So the pictures are without the rear bumper until I figure out how to make it work.

I think next up is a 3D printed parachute on the back, and maybe some zoomie pipes out the sides.

It's been a little while since I touched this project. I convinced a couple of my buddies to build some drag cars, it's spurred a bit of a competition now.

We agreed on a few rules and decided to limit the motors to 8.5T. Realizing that I might actually have to race this thing and having bragging rights on the line I put it on a diet. Battery tray got yet another redesign, also moved the battery back as far as I possibly could. The rearmost cross member was removed and the battery tray is also used as a cross member in that area. The motor itself is a few grams lighter, and I shortened the battery wires quite a bit. Finally, I took the grinder to the front axles to remove the CVD portion that was no longer needed. When it was all said and done I was able to remove a total of 56 grams off the car, seemed crazy to me.

I finally ordered some drag racing traction compound, so hopefully I'll be able to get some real launches out of it.

Not much as far as new pictures, don't mind the dirty workbench, I have too many projects going on at once.

This makes me want to build a foxbody drag car with the AP plastics body.

I have yet to even get it to hook up enough to get a good pass on it. My street is way to dusty for it, I tried some of the drag racing traction compound but that stuff is so sticky it just picked all the dirt and pebbles up off the road and stuck to the tires. I still have a lot to learn about these drag cars, but it does look good sitting still, lol.
Hopefully one day I'll find a decently clean surface to try it on.

I made my first few passes at a freshly re-sealed bank parking lot on a Sunday. I found that banks and churches seem to keep their lots cleaner and re-sealed. Banks are good on Sundays, churches not so much. :lmao:
But the nearest clean lot is 20 or 30 miles away and I got nobody to race, so she sits on the shelf in front of a boat and trailer most of the time.




If we lived near each other .....
