Directional tires run backwards

I was playing with the various tires I have in the garage, testing the grip of the various ones I had sitting around and discovered they grip a whole lot more when the tread is reversed against any surface I tried them on. So I mounted a set up on the Gen8 with the tread running backward and sure enough, they grip a whole lot better in the rocks! The tire knobs hook up a whole lot more.

Anyone else have the same experience? Heck, maybe it's a given and I just didn't know it.

Lots of directional tires work better backwards... until things get sticky. Part of the benefit of a directional tire is their ability to self-clean the chunks and gunk out of the tread so they don't pack up and turn into slicks, running them backwards usually negates that benefit. I agree that the Redcat Irok's perform better on rocks running backwards, but I avoid mud like the plague.

Frequently pure off road trucks run a directional tread backwards on the front and forwards on the rear, or the reverse of that. Reasoning is they have the more aggressive bite up front and less aggressive out back, and in reverse they have the same. Tractor cheverons are known for having more bite in reverse. But if a tractor gets stuck it really needs to back out.....

Also, don't forget the fresh set of biting edges you get from reversing your worn existing tires!

Running them backwards is a bit offensive towards the designers. It's a bit like saying 'you made the pattern the complete opposite of what is good', 'your design is so terrible, that if I reverse it 100%, it's actually good'.

I don't like that.
