What did you use to paint the beadlock rings? Does the Tamiya Polycarbonate work? Thinking about painting my beadlock rings with the same paint as what I used for the body..

For the wheels themselves, you can get axial 1.9 black eight hole beadlocks... I had to paint mine, because I got the satin chrome which were great for my silver version, but I painted for this... I just used a valspar flat black for patio chairs... The locking rings were sanded, primed with rust-oleum flat white primer for bare metals, and were top coated with rust-oleum orange protective enamel for metal.

You have to select the right paint for the surface.... If you're lucky, like I was with this one, you may even find colors that are very close matches...

Despite what most people think anodized aluminum can be easily painted with the right prep. Binding just takes time. And -if you have it- patience...


I had a tough time, cause I could only paint in my garage, and we're in the middle of a cold snap, so I had to buy a heater for the garage for laying the paint, and cured them in the house in a well heated spare bathroom with a good fan....

Although I cannot really call it a build, because I really just painted stuff and bolted stuff on, unfortunately with recent budget cuts at home I wasn't able to really go all out on this build like I wanted to. Had to do it on the cheap. Still.... I think it came out pretty bad ass!

I think it better showed your skills and attention to detail that you didn't buy a ton of fancy parts. Anyone can whip out there wallet and make something look nice, but not many can do what you just did. Great job enjoyed the build thread!
 
Amazing build so far! Great detail with such clean paint job, looks like you know your stuff! and echoing what others have said, the fact that you've done this on a budget and how awesome it's turning out is badass. Subscribed!

Curious, how did you do your door lines and other black lining? Really want to paint mine and stand out from the silver crowd, contemplating "joining the orange JK club" also since I have a "VALVe" (software) theme going with mine...

Sorry, I havent been around in a while, had to step away from my trucks for a bit. I will be starting a new body soon also. For the guys who asked about the paint and door lines.... The detail lines between the seats was actually done with masking before paint... The door lines? Much simpler than you might think.... Just used a fine tip sharpie, and ran it in the grooves. Easy!
 
Wow. That looks bad arse. Great job on the details. I was a little bummed when there was only one color on the SCX10 Rubicon i just bought. I wanted to match my car color. When i get the funds i will buy a clear body and go to town with inspiration from your work.

Hey man, In the process of doing a NB Jeep myself. One question, how did you attach the crusher flairs? did you use styrene on the backside?

This isn't a newbright... It was dont with a clear axial body. I totally would have used a newbright, but they're too expensive right now. Newbright tells me they plan to re-release the 1/8 JK around Christmas though, so snatch up as many as you can to sell em.
