Colorblind’s Axial Capra Thread

Not at all. People have torn down the HobbyKing clones next to the real thing and there are significant differences in quality of components and construction.

That was a concern with my Hakko. Apparently the clones are prevalent and very good. It’s the chips inside that ruin your day.

Looks like I did get a genuine unit though based on what I can see.

Would be down right infuriating spending all that money for a knockoff.

One more update today. I found time to do some terrible vinyl application to the body panels using my wife’s cricket materials.

It’s hard to get vinyl in around the body panels. Lots of heat and luck can do it. I originally did my RTR Bomber with vinyl to cover the ugly stock graphics.

We’ve got the Cameo Silhouette. I scanned the body panels into and then stuck lexan sheet to the mat. Used the cutter and multiple passes to etch the sheet enough to snap the panels out. Worked pretty good but you have to sand the breaks a little to smooth them out. If you wanted flat panels to experiment with. I did the same with my Bomber panels and then made some designs in vinyl. Stuck them to the inside and painted the panels. Removed the vinyl and sprayed another color to bring them out. Then sprayed a coat of black PlastiDip over that.

That's good to hear. I didn't mind spending the money, but at the same time I'm glad I couldn't have gotten the same thing for 1/5 the price.

Wow that’s some impressive work! Vinyl can be a pain for sure; especially when the panels are nowhere near flat.

I’m not ready to paint anything so I opted for a quick wrap for this weekends big crawling trip. I went black in hopes that the camera hides most of the imperfections. I’m not too worried about it since it won’t be permanent.

How are you guys getting the cockpit into the chassis?

Did some crawling today. First time out with the Capra. She has her quarks but I really love the platform! Such a pleasure to crawl around with and definitely a solid geometry design.

I used today to feel out the new rig. Test it’s boundaries and find it’s limitations. I notice all the same things everyone else does with COG and shocks/traction. I think wheels weights and a little shock tuning are in order but aside from that I will just leave it alone for now.

That area looks familiar! I was there until around 2:20, I’m sad I missed you. Keep up the good work!

I must have just missed you. I got off work and hit Hobbytown, then ran down to do some crawling. I think I probably arrived just a few minutes after you left. I may head back this afternoon if it looks dry enough.

Made it back out to Northshore today. Lots of folks out running in the cold! Was great to see so many rigs out there.

The capra is slowly getting dialed in. After last week I really noticed how stiff the tires were and how little traction I was getting. I drilled some holes in the tires to let them breath more easily. That seemed to help a bit as the little goat did quite a bit better today.

My buddy called me out for having dig set to a 2-position switch. We fiddled around afterwards and finally got it working on a 3-position. Now I can freewheel in the rear for those steep sections and limit the "flipping" this things loves to do.

I honestly like the little truck the way it comes. I believe it needs a little more dialing in on the tire/foam department and some more weight on the front axle to assist in climbing. I'm very pleased!

This photo has a set of borrowed wheels and tires that didn’t work out. They caused so much binding that my motor started smoking. We quickly removed them.

Nuts!! I was there until around 2 today, there was quite a turnout. At one point there were 4 Capra’s (Capri?!?) and about 12 other trucks.
