Got the Rubicon today! Received in 1 business day, Tower is only 3.5 hours from me so I figured it's come quick. Picked up an Onyx brand NiMH battery and charger from the hobby store and I'm ready to put the wheels in motion... I guess? Just wondering if there's anything I should know or do before I pull the trigger. I read to switch the lipo cut-off on the esc. Also wondering if these are all just spare Axial parts that come with the rig? Tons of them here, surprising they'd give you all these! Do I need to grease or thread lock anything or is that all done already? Reading my manual now but I'm always cautious with these kinds of things.
 
You should only need to thread lock any screw that screws into metal. All of the screws that screw into plastic should be good to go, just make sure that they are tight.
 
Reading into the lipo cutoff deal a bit further now, I'm a tad confused as to how to do this. I'm reading that I have to remove the pinion gear? Really? Man why couldn't the dude just sell me the lipo battery then, I didn't want to have to go through crap like this yet, that's why I bought a RTR! So then what, I go through the forward/nuetral/reverse/nuetral thing they show? Is that it? Ah @#$% man.:roll:
 
Not sure if this will help but here is a link from axial with videos. I wish I could help but all my rigs are built, not RTR and I don't own an axial esc, but I would imagine its basically the same as any other set up. I did read on the link I provided, under notes: #2 that axial has the lipo cut off set to "on" from the factory. Hope this helps. Axial Racing - Axial AE-2 ESC Set-up and Programming

Thanks Wade, I've seen that page and the videos. Unfortunately I don't need to calibrate the esc which is all Axial shows. They need to make a video detailing the switch between the auto cut-off and such. There's a bunch of written gibberish on that page about beep sequences and such and the ability to shut it off but nothing at all detailing the procedure. I'm calling them to see if they can shed some light, otherwise I want the shop keeper to exchange me for lipo.
 
K, it was very simple to do. I just can't learn anything from reading it, I have to get in there and just do it. As always, instructions make little to no sense when reading but once programming was initiated you see that the beep sequences coincide with the functions and their setting numbers listed on this tech article here. Forward throttle = yes / reverse = no

So much for the "RTR" promise... ESC is bad. :lmao: Boy I'll tell you what, if this aint textbook for my luck I don't know what is! Turn it on, got steering, got no throttle. Called Axial and told them and dude immediately says "it's not responding to the factory parameters, we'll send you a new ESC." I swear.
 
That does suck, the good news is Axial is keeping there promise with good customer service, there is a silver lining in all of this. Still sucks though. It shouldn't be too hard to switch out to the new esc.

Looks like all is well! I got the rig out today to try it again and I decided to try the ESC calibration video I found on axials site, shouldn't need to I thought because it was never mentioned necessary after a programming and the rig is RTR. Well maybe the esc had lost it's calibration cause it worked. Throttle is a go. I quickly realized I wanted the drag brake turned down to 50% after a few stoppies were experienced. So I ran through programming once more and we're off an crawlin! Here's a couple pics of her bone stock with a few accessories added.:ror: More to come!











 
I take my rig into the lhs to have my lipo cut off turned on and drag break set. Or you can get a castle link and download the free program to computer and jus matter of plugging in the ESC and setting everything on your computer.
