I haven’t upgraded the motor and esc on my Capra yet and the drag brake is almost non existent. Other than turning the nob on the transmitter is there a way to program more brake into this thing until I can upgrade the motor/esc?

I searched the manual (link below) and it doesn't even mention a drag brake. Best bet is to buy a HobbyWing WP1080 brushed ESC when you can (second link below). The 1060 will also have a drag brake, but it is far less adjustable and not nearly as good. You get so much more for your money with the 1080.

That’s what I was afraid of, thanks
You're welcome. That was definitely a terrible cost-cutting measure by Axial/Horizon by omitting the drag brake. Once you are able to upgrade to the 1080, I am sure you will realize it is a much better ESC in every way. The only problem is that Axial/Horizon took the super cheap way out and combined the ESC with the receiver. That means you will probably also need a new transmitter and receiver. Those can be had from cheap to insane prices. People rave about the Dumbo RC radio sold on AliExpress and I'm sure other Chinese stores. I have no experience with it. You can also put up a wanted ad on this site and ask if anybody is selling an RTR take-off 1080 and transmitter and receiver. You may find these items for super cheap.

I thought the rtr SCX10.3 had drag break out-the-box but was set low. My old memory tells me it was set to around 4 and all you needed was the program card to adjust ... which also happened to work with the 1080 esc which was a bonus as it was a great upgrade.

The Spektrum Firma 2-in-1 that now comes in the Capra? When it was released in 2019, it had a re-branded 1060 standalone ESC.

Interesting that the new/current Capra manual does not mention drag brake. But if you download the manual for the "Spektrum Firma 40 Amp Brushed SMART ESC with Receiver" it does mention an adjustable drag brake if you use the DYNS3005 programming card that does look like it came from HobbyWing. So maybe there is a chance @Tucky. Did the Capra come with a manual for the ESC/receiver?

I didn’t see one but I’ll look

It showed up and I increased all the brake settings and it stops great now but it still won’t hold itself in place on an incline. I guess I’m only out $14 and the motor/ESC/transmission are all going to get replaced soon so I guess I can live with holding the throttle a little on inclines

Gearing also plays a role in how strongly a drag brake will hold, the lower geared/more geared down the stronger. Since the Capra isnt geared down a lot out of the box it doesnt surprise me that it wont fully hold the rig on an incline. That should be a decent improvement though.

Well the good thing is that it appears that programming box will work with HobbyWing products so if you buy something like the Fusion SE or Fusion Pro, you already have the programming box.

The Pro is on the horizon
I have 1200SE on a stock Capra transmission with a 10t pinion and does pretty good slow crawl and plenty of punch for half the price of the pro, leaving budget to stuff a better/stronger servo in your rig. Pro is great for unlimited budget but I have many projects and rigs so icing sparingly helps to keep the herd going.

I get that, there’s lots of things that are nice to have but not completely necessary. I have this stupid personality defect that forces me to get the best stuff even if I’m not the best. It’s only money right?
