The inspiration for this build came a few months ago when I was trying to convince Jared86 that he wanted to build a 1/10 version of his vw bug.

Well I’m kinda impatient so after him not starting to do a build like this, I figured what the heck! I’ve already stretched a Sakura d4 rwd, so why not shrink one! Although I honestly didn’t want to use one for this build! The original plan was to stretch the body but after getting the body in hand I realized that would be difficult.

So next I looked in just about every on road car I could think of. But after researching wheel base options on 1/10 tc chassis, the wheelbase was 254-256mm at there shortest settings. So naturally I figured I’d check the mini route, like the m chassis and cup racer, but they are 225mm wheelbase! Were the sand scorcher is around 250mm

So enter the 3racing Sakura d4. I picked a preassembled version up and took it home. I was able to figure out that I need to remove about a 1/4 inch off the front of the chassis but can not find the left over carbon fiber plate from the drift truck!

So until I find it or just order another piece the build is on hold. Here’s how the body looks on a stock hpi rs4 sport 3 with vta tires

FYI a Tamiya TA04-SS wheelbase fits this body perfect. It's 10mm shorter than the standard 257 wheelbase (247mm wheelbase). I ran a polycarbonate replica version of the sand scorcher body on my TA04-SS chassis for the longest time. Not sure how difficult TA04's are to find nowadays but if I remember correctly it was simply the rear arms that made it the SS version over a stock TA04 so you might stand a chance of finding a regular TA04 on ebay and then finding the short wheelbase arms separate. I might be wrong on this but maybe it was just simply flipping the rear arms that made it the SS version, anyways, just some info if you are looking for a chassis that works with the sand scorcher bodies. Good luck on your project.

This is not my car, but this was the one I originally saw that made me want to replicate it. It's on the short wheelbase TA04.

I have a TA04-S. I can flip the rear arms and get you some confirmation measurements if you want.

Thanks guys. I’m still debating on if it should be drift or grip, I also have been unable to find the carbon fiber sheet that I have. If I can’t find it, the chassis is going to a friends shop to have a custom aluminum chassis made for it.

I do have a plan to run a motor on the back of this thing, just not sure how to mount it yet or if the motor will even work as it was designed for a sand scorcher chassis.

I did also pick up a m06 off of feebay so I may build a second street scorcher

I was able to cut 6mm out of the d4 chassis. I then cut a small piece of carbon fiber and drilled some holes in it to secure the 2 half’s together. The wheelbase is still a bit too long but it’s a lot closer. Now the biggest problem is width.

For width the front end with 3mm offset wheels stuck out way to much for my liking. After attacking the front end with hex drivers, drill bit and a dremel I was able to narrow each arm by 10mm. Unfortunately the wheels still poke out!

Rear has the stock d4 wheels, front has the 3mm offset wheels

I went to the lhs and was able to pick up longer set screws to use on the front uppers.

Then wile I was there I picked up a hobbywing xr10 justock esc and a 17.5t motor.

Got the motor and esc mounted and soldered. Still needs a deans connector as well as the capacitor mounted.

I got the servo mount drilled and put in a savox 1251 with a Losi horn. Also last night I tested some wheels that I had so today I went to the lhs and picked up 2 more sets

They are vta fronts all around and they actually do not stick out of the fenders!

Now to figure out body mounts..... that’s going to be a “joy”
