Buxom Melons: Class 2 VW Beetle

Re: Buxom Melons: Now Class 2

Enjoyable read and vids.....MELONS FTW!

Thanks Desert!

I had to go back to the steelies with CHUD spacer mod.
The TSL's I used were pretty beat up and the beads were stretched out I guess...
I had a real hard time mounting the to the Double Phatties and the Axial wheels. One or two of the beads kept coming out... So, back to CHUD's perfect ring!

Which sucks because I just ordered another set of VW Fubar rings for the Axial wheels!
Now I have them for two sets of wheels and I'm not running either set.

I may in the future...

We dropped the Class 2 rule about the wheels being half way under the fender so it doesn't matter but Melons has it cleared and I'm running Traxxas extra wide hex's.

Re: Buxom Melons: Now Class 2

I've decided to trim my chassis.
I need to see if I can get the front bumper mounts under the CMS... I think it'll work.
The rear shouldn't be a problem. I'm going to move the shock towers up a location on the chassis and move the shock mounting points to the rear of the towers. That should put my shocks at about the same mounting location but allow me to move the rear cage in .25". Going for as much approach clearance as I can get "thumbsup"

Well that's good because you really might need to change a tire with all that cutting and patching you did! You were asking for trouble before!

Re: Buxom Melons: Now Class 2

That's cause I stole the idea from you!

Melons got a reduction!
a .25" from the rear and at least .5" from the front. I cut about a .25" off the front of the chassis rails.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Buxom got a breast reduction?! Not right!

Re: Buxom Melons: Now Class 2

yup! the stinger was getting hung up all over Busse!

I just finished the white paint on the tires.
I think I'm going to paint all the tube work white too... not that it'll last.

Not many people showed up for this weekends comp so we decided to do an "easy" run because we're all going camping next weekend and don't want to break our trucks (I did burn up my motor though).

So, I totally chose the wrong line on the first obstacle and spent the first minute and a half stuck!
After a hundred reverses and finally a reposition... Melons breezed through the course. I ended up hitting one gate as Melons was coming to a stop

The 4.75" cut and shut ProLine Super Swampers on 2.2 wheels performed excellent!
I think Buxom Melons handled the side hilling better than the rest of the trucks... those short sidewalls really worked! "thumbsup"

chillin with the FJ...
So far, I'm really liking these Frankenstein tires "thumbsup"

Re: Buxom Melons: Now Class 2

Buxom Melons is back baby!
She ran extremely well today and I drove pretty good... took out the last gate on the course... launching down a hill instead of taking it easy

I had to take a repair because the little fulcrum pin in my VP dig fell out halfway through the comp, putting me in front wheel drive... other than that I'm really happy with where she is now.

Balance is good, she can side hill and the front/back tipping point feels really good. The cut n shut TSL's are holding up and hanging on!
I finally installed under drive in the rear axle, a blip of the throttle really swings the front end around.

The puller is AWESOME on 6s... I'm addicted!

I'll have video footage up in a few days.

Remove the dig. :)
