Broke a Bully 2 outdrive stub on my front axle!

Pulled a XVD off my rig today and found that I have a hairline crack going from the pin hole to the edge of the cup. I have no idea how long it's been that way but I'm glad I saw it before it totally failed. The pins are a little short and lacking in diameter for a proper fit IMO so I just pmed Gunnar to get some proper pins to go in the new axles I will be ordering.

I am an Apalacian engineer and learn by trial and failure.:lmao: There is no substitute for practical experience."thumbsup"

I was simply posting to show what I think caused the failure, heavy use and this phenomenon. I have always set my epa's by going to lock, and then backing off a significant amount (5-12% of travel).

This is all taught in mechanical engineering curriculum.

Which side was it?

Well, here I am almost a decade later - broke the same part.

Now the only issue is that the only repair I can find is going to be $200. WTF, is this a real car? The first repair on my Bully 2 is a $200 fix????

I'm a dumb-arse... Thank you kindly.

Now to figuring out my build. I have 2 HH snubnose v3 revolvers, 2 micro x esc's as well as one of the HH dual esc's - don't know which way to go on the esc's yet (reading that I may need a bec to use the HH dual esc, to which I would ask, why bother doubling the esc if i now need another component?!). I also have 2 HW Fusion motors, so I may just play around and see what I like best. May even buy a Bully 2 kit and build up 2 running systems. Dunno yet.

What do y'all recommend??

No problem

A HH dual mini with a BEC added is still gonna be lighter and smaller than 2 Micro X's.

You'll want an external BEC on the dual Mini BR because the internal BEC is only rated at .5 amps.

The micro X has a 2 amp (peak) BEC so depending on the servo that may not be enough amps either.

With either of those ESC I would add a BEC personally, but I usually end up with amp hungry servos.

If noise is a concern Holmes has an ESC that makes the revolver much quieter. https://holmeshobbies.com/electroni...llers/crawlmaster-mini-esc-v2-bare-board.html

I'm running a dual BR mini (with an external BEC) in my Bully 2 and I've been happy with it.

Well then, given i have a couple of 3Brothers power hungry servos in other rigs which may end up in this build, the external BEC seems the way to go. Ordered the CC BEC 2.0 (here Friday with Amazon Prime - what a world...).

Also - reading between the lines... - you have no love for the HW Fusion in this crawler?

Oh I meant to add the Fusion may be too long to clear the links, a 540 sized motor is already pretty close. Though I have no experience with HW Fusion setups.

Gotcha.

No, the Fusion system just clears. I have HW Axe systems on a TRX4 and a Bomber that I quite like, so I wanted the Fusion as a backup in the event the Revolvers are too loud, or not to my liking. Now my limited attention span, early onset dementia, and ah, limited attention span have me focused elsewhere (FPV world) - so who knows when I'll get the motivation to slap this all together. The dialogue helps, of course... ;)

Also - might start my own thread on the build instead of hi-jacking this oldie. One is never too old to self-broadcast material into the ether nobody asked for or didn't know they didn't need, so wtf not... ?
