OK I have a 1/16 Summit and I wanna make it go pretty fast.. I burned up the ESC running the Series so I wanna go Brushless now. Whats a good set up to get going fast.. I dont wanna get just the biggest and baddest and fastest but I wanna spend around $150 or so but I also found this and this seems good with the specs... What do yall think? http://www.aliexpress.com/product-f...r-Digital-Program-Card-for-1-wholesalers.html

Welcome to the forum...always nice to see another fellow Texan!

http://www.hobbypartz.com/

Domestic based so no need to wait 2-3 weeks for delivery on lipos, escs, motors, servos, etc.

GensAce lipos and HobbyWing's EzRun series are good for their pricing.

If I were you I'd throw on a used or new Castle Sidewinder which is capable up to 3S. If you post enough on here (20 posts)...you'll have access to the for sale section. Sidewinders are 1/10 scale ESC's but I've seen people run them on Traxxas 1/16 cars with the stock Velineon motor due to the fact that the stock Traxxas VXL ESC isn't the smoothest they'd like and heats up a lot faster than a Sidewinder.

The original Sidewinders which I run and waterproofed can handle 4s with older firmware via the Castle Link USB.

Ok I have 2 1600 mAh nimh Batteries and dont really want to go to Lipo just yet. Will that be a problem or do I have to get Lipo to run the Sidewinder.. Also did you look at that link?

Yup I looked at that link, but HobbyPartz.com has those motors/escs as well.

I even found the some A3 combo. On a Sidewinder you can run both NiMH or lipo. Program card is not bundled but not too hard to read the lights or listen to the tones. Basically you just turn off LVC (low voltage cut-off) to enter into NiMH mode.

I chose the Sidewinder due to the fact that's a 1/10 scale ESC so if you plan on moving it over to another car/truck you're not just limited to a 1/18 or 1/16 ESC as offered from your link.

Also Sidewinder's drag brake has a nice crawler drag brake profile if you want to use it on a comp rig or trail truck later.

But if you plan on keeping this EZRUN combo...HobbyPartz also sells this combo for cheaper than the site you found plus it's domestic so faster shipping!

Unfortunately they are out of stock. But they do have that motor you're looking for:

I'd say get a Sidewinder and drop in the 7800kv motor!! Super cheap price on it too.

I would saw get an mamba max pro and try 4s lipo

not only are speeds crazy but with a sensored motor (novak or tekin) you still have the makings of a decent crawler

Noir522,

I get the feeling that Solitude just wants a brushless system...and if you read his first post he wants to spend only $150 tops.

That's why I'd recommend the Sidewinder ESC + the cheap EZRUN brushless motor. With the Sidewinder being unsensored it's fine for crawling. As a matter of fact that's what I run in my AX10 comp rig. The only sensored ESCs I run is for on-road racing or off-road racing.

Btw your mini must be a speed demon!!! Very nicely done.

I think you have that backwards, an unsensored brushless is NOT fine for crawling unless it is capable of running brushed and you do so for the crawler. Unsensored brushless systems have terrible low speed (i.e Crawling) control and will cog to the point of making them worthless in some cases. The only advantage to unsensored brushless is that they are better in the water.

If you are going to crawl brushless, you need to go Novak or Tekin sensored. vOr go brushed which is what most do then run the sidewinder, FXR or BR_XL escx.

Oh yeah I totally forgot to mention my electronic setup on my AX10 is a Sidewinder on 3S with a 35T Holmes Pro brushed handwound.

His option is running brushless all the way from ESC to motor so sensored would be your only alternative if you want crawling capability. If you run unsensored brushless all the way that's fine for bashing and speed. But you will get ridiculous cogging running an uncensored brushless setup.

Strictly upon his budget though and what he plans to do with the mini Summit....trail bashing and speed runs for $150 in electronic upgrades unsensored brushless is the way to go.

It's like if you put the VXL system into an SCX10 crawling will be terrible. However mudding and blasting through wet trails is fun too.

A sensorless system will be fine for the summit. You really don't need the slow speed finesse like a comp crawler. The sidewinder systems are actually very smooth and past startup the sensor isn't used anyway.

I would throw in one of the sidewinder SCT packages. The motor and ESC will be perfect in your summit.

You could try a ezrun 35a esc, and a trinity mini monster. Just remember you'll be breaking the plastic cvds, so you'd need to save some loot for that. I'd use the traxxas steel cvds.
