Hey,

Want to get a better motor for crawling then my orginal titan 550-21t.
I still have the 2 speed gear box installed on my trx4, is a 1500 kv motor any good for crawler comp, is it a diffrence when u have the 2 speed i mean do i get the same torque as a single speed car would have?

Also can u recommend a good motor that fit my trx4 reverse mode?

If you stay brushed, trailmaster Sport 550 21T or the 550 expert models

Brushless there is a lot of options

So long as the motor has 0 degrees of timing you can run it in a reverse rotation setup (the HH sport mentioned above has 0 degrees of timing).

With a 2 speed you have more torque in 1st than 2nd due to having more reduction.

I think my favorite motor I've tried in the TRX4 was the 12t HH 550 pro, buttery smooth and peppy when you want it. If you want a more budget friendly option look at the 550 sport models.

As with anything crawling there is seldom a "best" of anything, its all about your preferences and what you aim to do with the rig.

Actually, the problem is not your motor it's the stock ESC. If you remove the XL5 and install an HW1080 the stock Titan 550 21T motor works surprisingly well. If you really want a smooth crawler the HW1080 and Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster Sport 550 15T is a very hard combination to beat for only $64 total. If you want to go all out the HW1080 paired with a HH Crawlmaster Pro 550 12T, like HumboltEF said, is smooth and powerful.

I have the HW1080 already installed and did notice a smoother feeling but i need more torque, havent tried it yet with 7.4v only on 6v until i get a better receiver so perhaps it will feel diffrent on higher voltage. Ok yes i do want to go all in and have the best motor, i will start lookinto the pro 550 12 t/ thanks

The 7.4 and 6.0 voltage option will not change anything on the truck, it's the operating voltage for the servo / receiver.

You need to try a 3s LiPo if you want to get a different feeling.

Oh i must have missunderstood that, thought both my servo and motor get more power if higher voltage.

I have a couple of 800 mah and a 2200 mah 3s Lipo.

Almost all ESC's put out 5.5-6 volts to the receiver regardless of the battery voltage, then this 5.5-6v is fed to the servo, so you'll be fine going with 3S.

Really most KVs should work. If you are only doing crawling, technically, the lower the better, beacause this way you can go much slower, but IMO, once you go below 2000, things get really slow with stock gearing on most rigs. I have a AXE 2700 KV on my TRX4, it's a good balance of fast and slow with first and second gear. At times it can be a teeny tiny tad bit fast for reeeeealy slow driving, (Not much to do with performance but really slow driving tends to look good in vids), but 2700KV and 11t pinion is a nice combo. I can hit 16-18 mph high gear, full turbo boost, and around 15 no turbo timing.

I'd reccomend getting something between 2000-2800 KV for a motor, preferrabelly on the lower side because the TRX4 offers a lot of larger pinion sizes than smaller ones. The reason I got the 2700KV and not the 2300KV was because of the motor size, I wanted a 550. If they had a 550 2300 KV, I would have gone with that.
