basic trail rig

Moe, your sickest build to date bro! Can't wait to see it all done.

Thanks Mitch, neither can I. Already itching to get it back on the trail lol.

That's a huge help. A couple things I wouldn't have thought of. Thanks
Do you spot weld then braze or just braze? All I have right now is a brazing kit.

All I'm using on this build is brazing. Really mig is great for 1:1's but just too much to grind on a 1:10.

Awesome build to follow along with. Almost like a guide on how to pimp your tf2! ;)

haha thanks man!

So some more time came up to toss in the project over the last few days. Progress has been going back and forth though. Main frame of the rocker gaurds came out easy enough, decided to hold of on adding more to the sides till I've thought about it a bit more. Kinda like the single tube look. But I got the main hoop of the cage added, cut and pinned. Drilled and tapped the tailgate mount and the windshield bars. But body alginment has become a pain in putting it all together. The rear of the bed was high, and ended up counter sinking the frame mount into the rail a bit. I can't seem to figure out what's up in the front yet though. It's minimal but the nose is high, and I'm just not finding how the tubes are holding it up. After racking my brain for too long on it, I decided to move on to the front bumper and come back to it. The bottom came out looking to square for me, but shouldn't be too hard to fix. And I still have some plate to add to mount the winch. But here's what I've come up with so far...

Why don't the bed line up with the cab correctly?

Thanks man! The body misalignment though, not sure. Seen other people complain of it on here too. The passenger front corner of the bed was way low making the bed out of square. While I was bobbing the bed I heated it and tweeked it back for the most part, but lost a bit while finishing the bob. Thinking of getting a Tamyia bed to try, but I'll prolly wait a while.

I've seen issues with the bodies but in this case you can't say that in good conscience. When you ran the cab back, cut the tabs on the bed and mounted it, you eliminated any chance of it fitting normally. The bed normally mounts to 4 fixed points on the cab.

What others have complained about is that the cab and bed are tweaked once bolted together.

I get your point and true enough not the exact issue, and suppose I was wrong in the comparisson. But I thought it showed the bed to tweek without too much effort. Prolly even more so now without a tailgate lol. And all it took was a couple posts forcing level pushin up in the front. So aftermarket mounting more dirrect cause. Thanks for the correction "thumbsup"

Spent the most of yesterday in the shop and I think I got this thing ready for a shakedown run with the tube work . Got the shock hoops done. Leveling out the frame ride height and slightly laying back the coil-overs. Took slight trim on the fender wells, but now ya get to see a little of the hoops hiding back there. And what would be easier than to integrate the motor mount to the driver side hoop. Added a couple tubes holding the plate, one giving extra brace on the factory crossmember. Pulled the trans apart flipped the shafts for the new mirrored mounting. When together had the spur gear clearance a little closer than planned but only needed a slight trim of the dash. Which thankfully at the bottom of the windshield, stayed 90% hidden by the dash and cowl. I'll have to build a new firewall around the trans position as well but that can wait. There is already plenty of work to be done with the body during prep for paint. Was debating moving on to changing the front bumper. Then the topic from yesterday got me thinking on the body alignment. Ironically there happen to be to factory threaded holes directly under the rear wall of the cab. Screwed in a couple bolts with slight spacers. Need to fine tune it a bit, but it's damn close already. Thanks again for bringing it up the bed Tozrovr "thumbsup". Never got back to the bumper, added a winch plate and gonna try it how it sits. Debating now on replacing the square corners vs if raising mounting would look more appropriate. Any opinions? No pics all together yet, I'll get those on the rock in a bit. But here's few of the fab work.

I LOVE THIS RIG!. Had more fun out running today than I have in quite a while. The weight balance plays out great till bout 70* on approach, and maybe 45* sidehilling. The extra weight seems to only keep it planted and run the suspension more. Plenty of flex to cover the capability, plenty of stability to be predictable, plenty of avalible speed control crawling with decent avalible wheel speed. There wasn't much this Yota didn't make it through. Many times taking on lines I still didn't think possible. And the few times she did tumble.. we'll just say cage tested and approved "thumbsup"

One of my favorite obsicals to test on

The new deproach angle worked out great, only a couple areas it touched

Not surprised the extra weight killed the loose dirt performance

But the exo cage helping to keep lines going did

Took an intentional jump nose diving off a scale 20' cliff to show stress on the cage, and I'm pleased enough how things held up.

Seems like a big list to finish the rig up, but still aiming intent for my Easter deadline "thumbsup".....Thanks for watching guys

Stepped out of the hobby for a while having a busy summer at work, also picked up a 1:1 thats taken most of my time to get up to par. Running out of funds, I dug into my rc's to sell my wraith. Found the Mojave cab first, and we'll just say I forgot about the wraith and 1:1 for a while. Excited to have it back on the rocks I forgot to be taking pics I finished Tator up over the last few weeks. But I'm bringing this one back from the dead for completion.

Finding the rig I threw it together for a run and got a reminder how fun it is. Unfortunately I lost a screw from one of the shooter shackle and smashed the frame before I realized. So the back end is currently way too low riding on factory shackles. Figured I'd loose a little weight off the back, so I ditched the rear cage/topper. After that, the exo just didn't look the same, so that's gone too and the bed was flushed up. Currently have the factory sliders on, not sure if they are staying yet. And I just wasn't feelin the front bumper anymore, so it got a slight redesign. Still loving the look of the inspiring rig, I fabbed up some bedside guards. Then ran the doors off it a couple more times before preping for paint. With the paint dry, I got Tator back together this morning...

Told ya I ran the doors off :lmao:

The guys got the cooler up front, was just too much stopping for road sodas :flipoff:

Hides the reciever well too "thumbsup". Still have some details I'm wanting to throw in but that'll wait for more funds. Right now I'm too egar to scratch this paint. Trail shots coming soon. Thanks for checking in.

Hey all, got out a bit this morning for a run. Only had a little time between sun warming things up, and clouds rolling in to get em cold again. Realizing now the bummer of getting this rig done as summer disappears from the rear view. And found the low rear really killing performance. Less flex, and catching the trans skid on so much more. But none the less fun and can't wait to get out again. Anyway here's the promised trail pics..

thanks Joe$.

Alright guys, I'm tossing around a couple ideas and need some input. Desided I need to make a interior cage. Didn't mind losing the exo cause I don't think the body needs anymore strengthening. But expect some door bars would help keep from hanging up in some situations. Problem being, the width of the cab is narrower at the bottom than window height. I'm not sure how to get a bar sticking out of the doors without being able to pull the body around them. Thought of just putting on tube doors but for appearance would rather a full cage. Maybe just do another exo? What do you guys think?

This sure looks like Durango.I'd like to maybe check out your tf2 if you are up for it.

Got a little more scale on the chassis while changing spring rates. Had a bunch of donors, so I matched a 90mm piston, with a 80mm shock body. With no spring it worked pretty close to the same as the steering throw. Found center, and added a threaded hole to the 3-link truss. Simple, non intrucive steering stabilizer

Looking through my tires an old set of Flat Iron's seemed up a nice alternative. More agressive pattern, hardly haller, and a bit wider than the Invader's. Mounted up on some stamped wheels with pit foams this morning. Then got Tator all back together for a run with a buddy this afternoon.

Very nice yoder. I just cannot dig your jeep banner. :flipoff:

:lmao:Yeah came in a assortment from RPP I've had forever. I'm a Service Tech at a Chrysler Dealer, so after three Jeep builds, finally something I didn't work on, I had to use it. It also started a on-going joke for warrenty in the shop too
