axial wraith

Is the wraith the best overall rock crawler besides a custom rig

The wraith isn't made for " crawling" it's more of a rock racer/trail rig... Great for Ridin the trails and bashing in the yard, but for "crawling" no.... Not the wraith...
Do you want a "rock crawler" or some thing to play with on the trails and bump over a few rocks here and there?

there all about the same with a few exception here and there. Axials site has the specs. Research goes a long way.

It's hard to give you an answer bud. If there was a rig that could be store bought and perform, there wouldn't be a vender section:). I have 2 wraith that crawl pretty well ( for wraiths). However it took a lot of money to get them there. Harley has a thread on affordable hop ups for wraith. Beyond that, just like it is for the rest of us, it's axle sets, a trans and custom everything. Hope that doesn't put a damper on your wanting to crawl. I believe for me, my mrc surprised me with what it could do out if the box with a little help. Maybe that's a good place to start

Welcome to RCC!!

Rock crawler for...?????

For downright serious competition rock crawling?
Not without a lot of modification.

For amateur rock crawling fun?
Depends on how it's set up.

For going slow "crawling" on all different terrains?
Again, depends on how it's set up... Can be set up as a slow goer or a high speed basher. But as a genuine "Rock Crawler"... No

For a realistic scale looking truck that is a go-slow crawler?
Yet again, how it set up and how detailed you ultimately make it. A nice scale hard body can be retrofitted on to just about any chassis with enough determination and work.

For a .......?

The questions to answer your question correctly could go on and on. Your question is pretty generic and as it was asked could receive several different legitimate answers.

A bit more detail of what you are wanting it for could generate better answers.

Although.... No one can truly answer the question but yourself as a LOT of the answer is solely in personal preferences of crawling style and personal tastes.

Not to send you down a long dark alley with just a dim flashlight, but the search function and lots of reading will give you your best answers.

The Axial AX-10 looks like a pretty serious crawler.

I have a Wraith. I want to use it to mix 50/50 between rocks, and trails. If I wanted it more for rocks, I would have probably gotten ax-10, but I like to trail ride, and be able to challenge tuff obstacles along the way. Just my .02

A crawler only goes crawling! You don't grab your CF chassis crawler and hit the trails or the parking lot for some wheel spinning. But if you don't want 3 different rigs like the rest of us. Then the wraith is the way to go and it all depends how it is set up. A good sensored brushless setup can be good for trail running, bashing and geared properly can do very well on the rocks but for a comp crawler you need a comp crawler nothing else. IMO. it's all fun i think everyone should have one of everything.
