Im sure someone has thought of this before but how about useing dig on the front driveline for a selectable "transfercase". If you build your axial tranny backwards this could be done. I think it would add some scale detail. Let me know what you think.

Im trying to get some ideas before i start my scale build.

Why would you have to build the transmission backwards? I don't see why that matters.

If you disconnect the front driveline, make sure your front diff isn't locked, otherwise it's a byotch to drive and turn....unless your rig is a heavy pig and has plenty of weight on the rear tires to get some traction.

It's cool idea and has been done before but serves no real purpose if you want to be able to drive the rig also, unless you want an open front diff and to get stuck a lot more often.

I ment flip the spur gear around to use the DNA dig. I haven't seen one on the tranny so idk how it all works so keep the help coming!

I've seen quite a few guys running trannies like an R2D reversed to get either 4WD or to disconnect the front to get RWD on scalers.

Is a Dig setup mandatory for people that wont be in competitions? Also, are they easy to setup in just about any tuber chassis?

Like I said, it's possible to have the dig unit or disconnect unit on the front BUT if you really want to make the whole package functional you'll have to keep your front diff open(not locked/spooled). If you don't, you won't be able to turn and drive without issues.

Try this, disconnect your front drive line and try driving your rig around.... if this is something you like, do it. I personally don't think it's even worth it, especially on a scale rig that needs all the traction it can get on all surfaces.

I'd say add a winch or two to the rig before adding a driveline disconnect unit.

For competition use I wouldn't go with out dig, it can be done, but I highly suggest it, most of the time when we design our courses there are quite a few spots where we have to use dig. The price is going down on them too.

Hot Racing Dig $38
TQ3 $20
Servo $13

As for setting one up in a tuber, its about the same as sitting one up in a TVP(Twin Vertical Plate) chassis.
