A deeper look within the Redcat Everest 10 crawler

Same here just got mine from the big brown truck, also from phx warehouse, being a total axial guy, iam very impressed with this new Everest, looks like a lot of parts swapping can be done.

I just got mine in the mail today. I must say i'm pretty impressed with it, I think it has alot of potential for some serious crawling..

Ok, ran mine over the 1st all day, watch the cheap plastic lockers, stripped both running pit bull tires, the hd axial lockers will work but you gotta file the axle shafts from the redcat to slid into the locker, also you can go up to a 17tooth pinion, an you can run 3 cell all day long never once got hot, ran great!, other than that its a great budget crawler/ trail truck.

I plan to run more agressive rubber so i better be prepared for upgraded locker. Anyone have an axial locker part # that works?

Axial part number AX30500. You only need to order one of that part number as the package contains 2 lockers.

As mentioned above and also in the links I posted earlier in this thread you need to remove some material from your stock axle ends for them to fit into the lockers.

I just got mine yesterday too. Looks to be very capable and much nicer overall than I was expecting.

The first thing I did was replace all the stock screws with stainless steel hardware.

Another plus is that the stickers on the body can be removed to clean up the looks a bit. They're not printed on the inside of the body as I've seen before on cheaper vehicles.

It looks like a small lipo can be mounted to the underside of the battery tray without modification, which should help lower the COG a little.

For the money this seems like it can be made into a very nice truck that can keep up with mostly anything for someone willing to put some time into it. I did order some Axial lockers to have for when I strip the stock ones. I can't wait to get this outside and see what it can do. Hopefully this rain stops soon.

BMoreScale - not intended in a rude way, but I hope it doesn't stop raining until after you've installed the lockers. Less breakage = less possible collateral damage.

I will hopefully have some time tonight to tear into the axles and wheels and provide some pics and more detailed info of what's going on in there for all of us to see and learn from. I have an Axial SCX10 to compare parts against so hoping to get side-by-side comparison pics. 8)

Yeah, you're probably right. It has rained all day so I never made it outside. I just climbed over everything I could in the house! Even driving around the house the motor/gearing combo this thing comes with is painfully slow, even by crawler standards. It really lacks wheel speed. I had this 27turn Tower Hobbies motor in my lathe so I thought I'd give it a shot. It's not an ideal crawling motor, but it does the trick to increase wheel speed and I can make it up areas I couldn't with the stock motor.

Couldn't manage to get into the axle info. It'll come soon enough. In the meantime, some pics for the wheels ...

(first time adding text to pics here, so ... *crosses fingers*)

So, noteable bits of info;
- assembled with coarse-thread screws, not the usual fine-pitch machine screws
- beadlock rings are plastic
- bead seat isn't raised like you'd find on other beadlock wheels (seen best in pic 2 above)

just wanted to give a big thanks to the person who done the review on these!
great pics, exc. info, and pro-cons. might get one later on to make a mud truck, just using the rears, and trans, links. thanks again.

Would you have a part number for that rim? I see several Axial rims with different offsets. I saw someone mention this in a different thread but, can't find it again.

Ah crap, I thought something was missing. Thanks!

They are 8 holes, AX8097 ... Axial Racing - 2.2 8 Hole Beadlocks (Black)

The 2.2s they sell will have different widths, and possibly different offsets/backspacing. Between the Method, Walker Evans, Raceline Renegades, Trail Readys ... couldn't tell you what all the numbers are. Even Axial doesn't have it all listed on their site.

I will update my pics to reflect that info. Thanks again. "thumbsup"

Thanks this is an Awesome write up you did by the way. I don't own the everest, my son's rig is the redcat. I called the Axial headquarters, you are right, they don't have that information. Amazing in this day in age that in the world of crawlers a lot of us are using parts for an unintended purpose. In fact combing through the threads off a search, I came up with a lot of posts asking this question. Thanks for the info!
