7.2v 2000mAh battery to higher mAh

I am new to the crawling world. Well, at least the RC crawling world :). I recently purchased a 1/8th scale crawler that came with a 7.2v 2000mAh Ni-MH battery. I already had another battery, a 7.2v 2000mAh Ni-CD, and it also works. My question is; is there a way to safely use a (Ni-CD, Ni-MH, Li-PO) 7.4v (2000-5000 mAh) battery? I am really looking for a way to increase run time, and not increase power. Any help, past experience, and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

As long as the voltage is the same as what you already have then you can use any size pack (mah). If you wanted to step up in voltage you would have to make sure that your components were up to the task.

If you are going to use a lipo make sure that you have some sort of cut-off to make sure that you dont over drain it.

On another note, I prefer having more smaller batteries than one large one. Obviously less weight is better up high in a crawler so bigger packs are often not a great thing because they are hard to keep down low. I would suggest buying more packs of the same size rather than larger packs.

Hey, thanks a lot for the response. I'll have to do a little more research, but I am leaning toward your suggestion of purchasing more of the same kind. I have however, found the Ni-CD battery to last longer than the Ni-MH (same voltage and amp hrs). Suggestions or recommendations on this?
