27mhz or 40mhz

hi, im pretty new to R/C cars, and like most of my hobbies, ive rushed in to buying a tamiya pajero from ebay ( it looks nice!) i dont plan to do heavy off roading so i think it will be fine.
it didnt come with any radio gear, can i only use 27mhz gear or can i use 40mhz as well? or is that for other R/C stuff?

Only one way to go, 2.4ghz...

At the very least a Futaba 3pm would be good. It's a cheap radio for what it can do, and you may find the need for a 3rd channel down the road. There is a 27mhz or 2.4ghz version, either will work.

2.4GHz is best, as it doesn't need crystals - no risk of frequency clashes with other RC users.
40MHz is next best - more choice of crystals/frequencies, so medium risk of clashes.
27MHz works, but only 6? standard frequencies, so high risk of clashes.

Don't use 35MHz, as that's reserved for aircraft.

Stick or wheel, the choice is yours, although stick radios can be a lot cheaper for the same features, especially if you want 2.4GHz.
My choice would be a Spektrum DX6i - 6 channels (for things like 4ws, DIG or diff locks) for £130.

thanks for the replies, i want a wheel style Tx as thats what im used to (had loads of tamiya quick drives as a kid that all had the wheel type transmiters!) so i may have to go for a 40mhz for now as wheel 2.4ghz are quite expensive.
