1/24 Pro-Line "True Scale" Ambush

Altough i like that body, I think that would be to big because it's 1/20 instead of 1/24.

I know it says it's a 1/24 scale crawler, however 1/20 scale is actually a better scale for the micro crawlers. The tires are more proportioned, and the width of the axles is closer to scale. All my micro crawler builds are 1/20 because of this. I'll admit I don't own an ambush yet, but from what I can tell it's pretty much the same dimensions as a Losi offering. The wheelbase would have to be changed is all.

The TLC has an interior, but it could be removed if need be. The only issue I'd see with the Hilux would be a lack of space. These models are scale with scale bed dimensions whereas a lexan RC truck has a false bottomed bed to allow for more space.

I'll be anxiously watching your Hilux build.

It looks good from the top and outside. I wouldn't have done it the same, but it works. Not a bad idea with separating the link mounts vs making longer links. There's good ideas in that read for sure. It just needs a little different execution. Plus it's an old thread.

Mine rocked up this morning but I'm having trouble finding a hex to fit the screws, can anyone tell me what size they are?

Also has anyone worked out a suspension setup?

I think the stock suspension is pretty much good and accurate. At the most I'd remove the helper springs inside the shock body. Removing leaf spring helpers will let it wrap easier and nobody like bent up leaf springs. Good god I wanna buy two or three more of these now.

I removed both helper springs and the internal shock springs. I also grinded down the servo ears to clear rails on uptravel and I grinded on rear bumper mounts for better rear shackle flex. Nice improvements but I am just carpet crawling with my Daughter. Super sweet sharpie work on wheel rings too. Also moved the skid/trans forward one hole with no mods.

Get right at a quarter height of flex.

It depends on where you want to run the truck. This little suspension is cute but is almost useless for anything other than carpets or the kitchen floor.

If you want to run on trails, remove the internal coils and add as much weight to the chassis as you can, otherwise it will just bounce along like a toy.

If you want to the suspension to actually work, you will need to remove the internal coil springs, the two small leafs, and build anti-wrap bars. Setting up leaf springs for off-road is the same challenge for any size RC truck and very similar to full size off-road trucks.

I ground my servo mounts also, makes a huge difference. I took the springs out of the rear shocks but kept them in the front for clearance. And took the leaf helpers out of the front but left the rear. Wheel weights on both bumpers and servo, and metal wheels really help keep the wheels on the ground and allow the suspension to work. I would for sure weight my stock wheels or get metal ones.

Also came up with a non-permanent way to color the shocks.

Heat shrink tube.

I removed the helper springs front and back.
Added the wheel wideners, heavy wheels, and tires from my Losi.
(Going to have to trim the body and front bumper if I decide to keep them)
Still doesn't flex much... but is a bit more stable.
Going to throw in a Predator 80t and remove inner springs.
I do like it. "thumbsup"
