'Brushed motors should be run with low C rated lipos.'

I said why?

Because it pushes too much current into the motor and once saturated, the motor doesn't produce more power and just gets hotter for no reason...

He was not talking 3S vs 2S (as he had strong opinions about 3S too) but that even high C rated 2S packs kill brushed motors quickly.

So apparently they only recommend 20C lipos for brushed motors and crawlers.

I queries about using my right finger to control the flow of electricity as it isn't like PWM brushless when you get max current X times a second as the FETs switch as I believed brushed to be governed by voltage you personally request via the TX.

I also believed the battery has little to do with it as I was under the impression that the battery basically supplied what the ESC asked for and as such couldn't 'push' current rather simply supply it.

He also said no brushed motor should be run on 3S and the two lipo series wired Traxxas EMaxx on the nearby shelf was only in fact 2S so the Traxxas 550 21T I was buying was not safe on 3S.

I said many guys run the 550 21T on 3S (and obviously 4S on the EMaxx) but no, it is just a 2S motor...I.e. Don't bring back a burnt out 550 if you run anything other than 2S.

Hmmm...

It's a store that you go to when you want something fast. Some other staff are ok.

I didn't personally take on board anything he said as it was clearly bordering on ridiculous. Imagine what he tells other people.

LHS standard employee..... doesn't know anything unless it's drone or iphone related.
That and IF there's a car guy, his word is law, and if you don't agree with him you're obviously not really an RC hobbyist..

I have stopped going to hobby shops for the same reason. If its not traxxas or hpi then its not good if you ask them. I brought my traxxas based sand rail in and they looked at it like it was a frankinstien monster. Then i brought my berg in there and it was like aliens were invading. They never knew such a thing existed. I gave up trying to educate them about what we do.

Good thing I only run my 2s in series, wouldn't want to burn up those motors I haven't been burning up... Oh, wait.

meh, it's a non-issue.

it's really about the same as the guys at the autoparts store that have told me I couldn't have a Dana 20 transfer case in a '75 Datsun pickup because Datsun didn't make a 4wd until 1980. If it wasn't that way stock, then it just couldn't be made differently, right :D

But that would be running the EMaxx on 6S (two 3S lipos) and not 2S (which is 4S in series)...the shelf also said 6S capable...I pointed at it but didn't say anything further about it.

He was very specific about how simple high C values destroy motors.

I guess ultimately he was trying to stop people burning stuff up and having returns which is better than 'yeah go for it mate' but still...

The funny thing was he was getting annoyed when I was chatting about it.

He clearly was perplexed when I said the 21T wasn't actually 21T when you compared it to a 540 can size and may actually be like 27-30 T. He opened his mouth to discuss further but I think he wanted me gone at that stage. :ror:

He's on the right track but doesn't have all the correct info. This same subject got brought up a while back at my lhs as well.

This is why (50c battery): https://commonsenserc.com/product_i...cts_id=5008&osCsid=stdp0vh18jr8tr81agoj3al3r7

"Please Note:
These are for use with brushless motor systems only. Using these 11.1V lipos with brushed motor systems can result in damage to the motor or ESC."

:mrgreen:new electric rules:lmao: as a lipo pushes power to an esc:mrgreen:
send them back to school 8)
