1/24 Pro-Line "True Scale" Ambush

burly look.

silly question from a micro newb. Where can said Predator motors be found?

I bought the 2 I have from Danelly (sp?) years ago on here.
I'm not sure if he still sells them... I seem to remember searching a few months ago and he does.

Did ok on the rocks today... not great.
Even with the added width and weight it still feels top heavy and bouncy.
I'm going to remove the inner springs and may go down a tire size.
Also, not crazy about the motor/radio... considering replacing esc/rx when I swap the motor.

1/24 Pro-Line "True Scale" Ambush

I removed the inner springs yesterday. Really loosened it up. I kind of have a hard time believing they sent it out without instant reverse[emoji37]. Past that I think it's doing great. Isn't going to be as precise or capable as my comp built trekker was with how it sits but I like it for how it is now. More like the old stompers but fully functional. I'd like to catch some slow mo of it bumbling along on some small rocks or a little climb. Brings out my inner child a bit again.

There is no instant reverse? How has that not been something everyone else has complained about? Lol

Definitely inconvenient. Oh well. I'll probably swap mine with a castle micro like my others

Update; the rc4wd mickey thompsons on Losi rims I put on earlier of course rubbed worse than stock, but, found my set of rock crushers on Losi rims. MUCH better. A tad smaller so better low end crawling grunt and more sharper turning with out the spring and front bumper rub.

Began playing around with a front bumper concept, may add a stinger, bonus is a few more oz. over the stock unit given the bumpers brass, tin and solder content. Tiny truck, tiny bumper, fat fingers make this a real challenge! Will devise something for the rear tomorrow.

1/24 Pro-Line "True Scale" Ambush

I've been out of the scene awhile I guess. I see the reference to a cc micro esc. Is that the 1/18 you're referring to? If I did that then it'd be nice to use my own rx and have it programmed to my multi model memory tx. Dang $ adds up fast after that and wheels and initial price. A better servo would be nice too.

That would be most ideal, but they are getting rare and expensive. Is the esc and RX one modular unit? I forget, but I think I remember that. I'll probably just use one of my castle micros or even one of my xys-20a and GT3B rx

I ran a search last night after reading that...
I saw the Mamba Micro 1:18 and the CC Sidewinder (which i run in my mrc's).
Is there another CC Micro ESC?

The Mamba Micro looks pretty big. Maybe decased?
The Sidewinder is flat but long for a micro rig.

That's why I'm thinking the Losi Micro ESC/RX.

The Mamba Micro is basically a Micro Sidewinder with a heatsink, case, and the capacitor moved on the board next to the heatsink instead of at the end. The sidewinder is a bit thinner because of that, but a bit longer as well. From left to right is the newer Mamba Micro X, Mamba Micro, Mamba Micro de-cased, Micro Sidewinder, Losi Micro ESC/RX combo de-cased,Losi. Micro ESC/RX with case, and the XYS-20A which can generally be found for $12.

All work well and are roughly the same size, however the Losi ESC/RX obviously has a receiver built in which saves space.
The Castle ESCs are awesome and very adjustable, but the extra features come at a higher cost and may be overkill for some people.
FWIW the current Castle ESCs are the Mamba Micro X and the Micro Sidewinder 2. The previous Mamba Micro and Micro Sidewinder are still available from other retailers though.
The XYS-20A is great and very cheap @ $12 or less. It's the most compact of the aftermarket ESCs & cheapest. You'll still need a separate receiver, but if space isn't an issue that's not a big deal. Make sure to find the one with no brake reverse delay.

Just pulled the plug and bought one for my son for Christmas...I don't know if I can wait until then without testing it out myself.

Can't wait to drive it and help my son work on and learn about it !! 8)

I think the Ambush makes a great scale platform to build something from. For me, its just too much work to setup to perform off-road the way I like.

One thing I love about it is the tires. I have several different sets of tires for micros and the little Flat Iron tires preform better and have more grip than any of the RC4WD tires I have (except the Scramblers) and the Flat Irons are the perfect diameter for my applications. So.... I gave the Ambush to a friend. But before I gave it away, I put my old stock Losi MC wheels and tires on the Ambush.

I stole the tires off the Ambush and put them on a different micro rig :D.

Removed the front bumper for clearance and trimed the fenders.

It performed great today with the inner shock springs removed.
I was able to crawl steeper and sidehill better than before.
Seems less bouncy too.

I'm going to add 1 set of helper springs. Maybe the medium length, and see how she does.

I still want to swap the motor asap.

from my experience with the losi micro and orlandoo... the ambush has plenty of wheel speed and being able to switch it from speed to crawl is awesome imo. as far as the motor and wheel speed go i say its the best out of all the micros i have.

The center of gravity oblivious is high on this truck. To see how it would handle with it lower i taped 4 led weights to the axles(look jankie but temporary). night and day difference. i plan to make some brass weights that will bolt on using the holes in the axles.
