Because I had the parts. Almost all of them. I recently acquired the D35 axles so I decided to build a little tribute to the old school RCC. I love all the super detailed rigs being built in the past few years but I miss the basic old school rigs. No working door latches, no working brake calipers, no ignition key, etc. Just a built tough rig that wheels hard and doesn't brake. Here is documentation of my attempt at that.

Some old school parts in there. Traxaxs half shafts with hardened steel output yokes, Original Reign K2-3S chassis, Original RC4WD R2 rebuilt with HD gears,, New RC4WD D35 axles, Proline Flat Irons M compound, Tamiya Jeep YJ body...

Greased up the axles. XVDs installed and trusses installed.

Chassis is coming together, and oh, what have we here?

Vintage Tamiya insanely smooth shocks (honestly best shocks ever) I used Traxxas rod ends for more flexibility and strength.

Time to build drive shafts.

Got the bits sorted. Body mounted.

I kind of want to hack the body up but I like it as a semi stock looking "sleeper"

Thoughts?

I saw old school RCC and gotta give ya a "thumbsup"

Vote for hacked.

Thanks!!! I looked and thought I had some old school MSD beadlocks but I must have sold them along the way. I DO however, have 1badjeepbrusier's first set of eritex beadlocks from his original clone build. hmmmm

Got a Jerpload of stuff done to this today.

Since EeePee says "hacked" I gotta go hacked.

cleaned up a bit

making some heavy duty rocker panels and flat fender supports

trimmed up the rocker panels and fender supports. now to add some old school diamond plate.

i like the stance on this puppy. building toy trucks is fun.

Tossed a lil flat black paint on. I had an idea of where i was going paint-wise but I dig the black… Most likely I will stick to plan A but if I get sidetracked, at least i know black looks pretty ill.

Luke… I am your father

Frat brack!!!

.........oh...

This is American Jerp....

I love the throwback build! Reminds me of simpler times when Flat Irons ruled the rocks, pit-bulls were just dogs, a guy was a guy and a n00b was a noob, and all I had was an OG Mountaineer and 74.5 MHz... God love ya Mr. Vedder for bringing back the good ol' days.

I sprayed a little more paint on this thing… while waiting for it to dry I worked on an older rig and filled in these holes on the side of the R2 tranny with small set screws. (action pic below) I added thread lock so they don't rattle loose and end up inside, crudding up my gears!

Flat black grill/tailgate. Flat grey fenders/rocker panel. Gloss Seaside Blue for the rest. Undecided on the hardtop color… More detail to come. (NOTE: the paint looks WAY different outdoors than on my counter)

Pretty neat! I've been contemplating taking a bunch of this stuff I have here and slapping together an old school type build.

Shit I think I have 3 TLTs here begging to be used, thanks for the inspiration.

Do it!!
TLT axles and an old school chassis are the way to go. I have had a lot of nostalgic fun building this. I can't wait to finish it.

Tan top.

Looks great. "thumbsup"

Thanks. Tan was #1 on my list. I thought flat white or even a light grey (lighter than the grey on there now).
