RSome great pictures from the master Steven Kautz at worlds 2014...thanks a lot Steven!
Something new is in the house. In January we spoke with the product manager of multiplex/hitec about the new hitec brushless servos and i like what he told us.
I orded in february and it arrived in september after worlds.
The last i was very happy with my 7950, but i also have the problem i killed to much of them. The brushed way ist't the best way for a "border line crawler " like me...to much wheeltime...
Long time before i thought about to change, but i don't wanna loose the titanium gears of my Hitec.
The new brushless from Hitec uses the same titanium gears, but a special technology called "power miser" technology. It's generated the voltage and give back to the lipo. Sounds good, but it does't work with the BEC we use in our competition rigs. That's the reason why they offered the "PAD". The BEC block the generated voltage and the PAD absorb that. That's the way it work's fine, but we have to use the 3g PAD(one electronic piece more who could damage) and we could't work with the new technolgy. After some days thinking about i thought about going back to the second lipo way to use that cool "power miser" option. With these technolgy you will save 90% to brushed servos and it took only 1/5 of other brushless servos on the market. I thought if the technolgy really works fine, i could use a very small 2S lipo and i tryed and it works very good! I will tell you more about at the end but first some things to say why i did have choosen that servo:
Hitec HSB-9380 TH
PAD
- Titanium gears in high quality
- brushless motor from castle creations (special designed for the new series)
- 34kg / 7,4V
- 25 teath Servohorn, same like futaba
- m3 to fix the servohorn
- only 67g
- Noise is like 0 if you did't use
- good price
- programmable
- if you put voltage on the servo goes first slow back to zero
- constant power!
Why i will use a second 2S lipo only for the servo or the receiver?:
- only 10% energy with the "power miser" technolgy and i could use a very small lipo(100mah >)
- one electronic piece less who could damage in Competition(No BEC)...a part who isn't inside could't fall out on course
- more power for my holmes hobbies mini
- weight is same/same because no BEC
I did make a test on the carpet and the 100mah(6g) lipo hold up 37 minutes(Restvolt 7,44). If you need more you could take 350mah...2 hours driving and about 20g weight.
About the servo i have to say it holdes up the full power in every situation and i try hard! In the past the 7950 always went hot after testing on the carpet after 4-5 Minutes. The new one was cold after 37 minutes
If somebody will try the servo he could take different ways to use:
- with the PAD and BEC but without "power miser" technolgy
- without PAD and BEC but with PM and holmes hobbies hobbies bypass adapter and a 2S lipo only for the servo (that's my way because i would like to save the Receiver)
- without PAD and BEC / with PM but lipo used to give power to the hole receiver. It's working like a little "powerbox". The thing you have to cut is the red voltage cable from the HH mini's. If you did't do that your servo will be dead. If you cuted you could plug the 2S into the batterie port and the servo cable to the batterie receiver port.
Hope to get the chance for testing on my rocks soon, but at the moment the weather says no!
