Wroncho Baja Bug - Wraith, SCX10, Yeti

I appreciate the advice skerb. I see what you are saying. As you mentioned, I will try it first and see what I think of the performance (and hopefully not lack of!) I did try to get them lower, but the nerf bar supports were in the way. Thanxs.

I took your advice and ran with it skerb. Had to get creative, but I was able to lower the forward trailing arm link mounts exactly one full inch. I'll post pics soon. Thanxs again.

Here's a before and after picture with the forward trailing arm link mounts: (despite what the picture shows, the front link end is just about perfectly level with the both of the skid plate. I will likely have to replace these Traxxas link ends more often than usual as they will take some abuse from the rocks.

Thank you. I just received the amber LED modules for the front 5B lights and they look very kool. The body is in the middle of being painted now.

The ProLine Yeti Baja Bug body is completed.....and it turned out better than I imagined.

Here's the paint steps:

1. Masked the inner side panel and sprayed the whole interior Gloss Black (PS-5)
2. Removed the inner masking and sprayed the side panels with 3 coats of Metallic Purple (PS-18)
3. Backed the purple with 3 coats of Bright Silver (PS-41)
4. Backed the whole body interior with Gloss Black
5. Removed the outer body film and inner windows masks
6. Masked the exterior side of the windows
7. Applied Parma flame templates
8. Sprayed the whole exterior with Flat Clear (PS-55)
9. Removed all the masking and was amazed with the outcome!

I have an scx10 with trailing arms and have been experimenting with how the frame attachment point affects handling. With the arms mounted high like that it will make the rear axle want to walk under the truck when climbing or accelerating quickly.

View attachment 309185

This is the arm angle at full droop on mine. Take a look at how flat the arms are on the yeti and twin hammers.

Sorry to be off OP topic, but what arms are you using here? TH? And are you using the stock link location? Is that the emaxx '66? Do you have a build thread I should be asking all these questions in?:lmao:

Yeah I'm totally gonna borrow this idea of masking the exterior and spraying clear flat. That came out great!

And kudos on the whole build. Very nice.

I took the bug out for it's maiden crawl today. Overall, I'm very satisfied and some fine tuning is required. I was getting a little torque twist so I have swapped out the rear green ProLine shocks springs out for the stiffer red springs (lower springs only); hopefully this will help.

I have mixed feelings about the Pitbull 1.9 Growler tires though. Can't say I was overly impressed with their performance, in fact I feel the Axial Falken Wildpeak tires perform better. I will try them out next time.

The Curries and body have their rock rash now, so those tears are behind me now!!!!

Unfortunately, my day got cut short because the whole weight of my rig crashed down onto a rock with the Vanquish Titanium drag-link taking the impact. Snapped the rod clean off at the thread.

Can't wait to get 'er back out again though, the extended wheelbase and extra track width on the SCXHR chassis make this rig very sure-footed.

Excellent build, keep up the good work with all your projects.

What pieces did you mount the Pro Line shocks to? Thanks!

That thing is awesome looking. Well done! I don't even normally like the Baja bodies, but I think you've changed my mind on em!

My LHS had a Vanquish Drag Link in stock, so that's all fixed up now. One of the advantages of going with AR60 width axles and a Yeti Bug body means I can switch between 1.9 rims & 2.2 rims and rubber without modifications. Next time out, I will be trying this machine out with the U4 Voodoo Silver tires and Gearhead 2.2 rims.

Here's some pics with the 2.2 set-up:
