Which of these two ESC\Motor would you reccomend?

Hi all

I've recently completed my Yeti Kit.
the only upgrades so far are MIP shaft and STRC motor mount.

At the moment I'm using an RC4WD Outcry dual brushed ESC with a 45T brushed motor which I had under hand. (well, after I burned a 20T under 4 minutes with a 4S...)

The Yeti goes slow with 2S, decent with 3S and well enough with a 4S pack. But I would like to change to 3S brushless. Main target is bashing, got a RC4WD Bully for crawling

My narrowed down options are:

The SKYRC looks nice, with a Bluetooth option for on the field adjustments.
However, there is not a lot of information on the SKYRC motors. also not sure about the right one to choose.
Cost is about 170$ for HobbyWing and 140$-160$ for the SKYRC assemblies

I'm budget constrained, so a Holmes Hobbies with MMP or Tekin motor and ESC is not an option.

What do you think? anyone has experience with these vendors \ products and Yeti? what KV motor would you recommend for either of the two?

I'd get a Mamba Max Pro ($120) or the Traxxas relabeled MMP ($75ish) off of ebay and reprogram it.... They are tough to beat. "thumbsup" As far as motor, I've been looking at the Skyrc Toro motors too but I think I may go with the X8S series because they will handle higher voltages then the Toro S-Pro4 (which isn't rated for 4s like you're messing with). I'm running one of the Skyrc Leopard 540 motors in my Yeti now and it's holding up ok despite being under torqued for the weight of the Yeti. I'll go to a big boy motor once I can afford one.

I just got a hobbyking trackstar brushless sensored 120a esc $68, trackstar 4 pole 4250kv sensored motor $45. Works great. With stock 16t pinion it would back flip from a stop if you hammered the throttle. I locked the front and put a 11t on and I love it. I have to many other projects I have to spread out the cash. this combo does everything I ask it to.

I run HobbyWing ESC's, hobbyking, ETC.
The MMP is just better! Much better low end. If you like a very smooth startup then the MMP is your ESC. $120 most places.
I run a $60 motor. That keeps you within your budget.

TowerHobbies.com | Castle Creations 1/10 Mamba Max Pro ESC Smart Sense $127.50 with Easy Pay if you need it.
Hobbyking® X-Car 120A Brushless Car ESC (sensored/sensorless) $35

Turnigy TrackStar 1/8th Sensored Brushless Motor 2350KV $60

If you are constrained budget wise and don't need super smooth startup the Hobbyking X-car 120a is a good ESC. I have run this one as well. It's flashable with HobbyWing program card, they are identical.
The motor is an absolute beast. Just fits in the Yeti, barely. You'll have to rotate the motor to avoid the sensor wire hitting the battery tray, or notch a small groove in the tray.
Recommend running the motor on 3 or 4s. 2s is just a tad slow, but it will crawl very well.

Thank you all for your reply, I get the notion MMP is somewhat in favor :)

this looks very crowded , doesn't the sensor cable conflicts with the battery?
it looks like 63mm motors will have a better fit, no?

X8S are 68mm in length, the S-Pro4 are a tekin knock off at 63 mm.
looking for any experience with them

are you running 2S? I plan on 3S myself.

so now I consider an MMP with either the SKYRC s-PRO4 3000KV or 2500KV or the HobbyWing 3656SD 3400KV. running on 3S what do you think?

I'm running 2 cell. Don't get me wrong Castle is by far the better product. Just saying my trackstar gets everything I want out of my yeti. If you have the cash go mmp. Just saying trackstar is not horrible

$211.00 shipped to me for Mmp and xerun 3656sd is the way to go i think. You get a good esc i think the motor is badass and if you have more patience than me you can probably get free shipping on both items and save you some money and hit that $200 mark.

I run that in my wraith. Great combo!

how hot does this combination run on 3S?

I just had some bashing with the current configuration (brushed, 45T)
on 3S it was dead cold, but also not very exciting
4S the motor ran hot, mind you it is 30C deg today, so it is pretty hot. the performance was decent, but I as looking for a bit more oomph.

Not hot at all while crawling it will barely get above outside temp and when bashing it gets just warm to the touch. My son and i had a lil drift session the other day on the loose stuff at the baseball field and we did probably 5 minute runs at completely wide open nit letting off the throttle for maybe 1 or 2 seconds and the motors were just hot but not burning hot could still hold my finger on it. My holmes 540xl runs a lil cooler and its quite a bit faster its also $40 dollars more than my sons motor but comes fully assembled with motor leads.

The holmes 540xl or the xerun 3656sd are both great motors one is a 550 and the other a 540 size so obviously a slight price difference but both i think a reasonable.

If you're interested in a Castle Creations product, Please call their customer support line and ask them directly. I would hate for you to get the wrong set up or spend too much money on something that you dont need.

mrhobby100 is correct. The HobbyWing runs cold. Never had any issues with mine. I can crawl, thrash, bash and it never gets hot. I can't seem to recall ever getting my motor HOT. I had this in my Rustler for a while too.
