Which motor/ESC for trail running

Just bought a Element Trailwalker Black. I have some nice trails with some rocks to crawl. I guess you could say I will be mostly trail running this rig. I am stuck on which motor/ESC set up to upgrade.

Fusion SE 1800KV or just upgrade to a HW 1080 or HH 550 21T w/HW1080.

Like to hear everyone's thoughts.
Thanks!

Flip a coin, you couldn’t go wrong. The fusion lends itself to a cleaner install. Might suggest the pro just for a bit more speed on the trail but the SE is still plenty fast for trail walking.

depending on budget... I will say both options are the way to go ... there is a deal from redcat for a HH motor and the HW1080 for around 40 plus shipping while the SE could be had for 70 plus shipping so it all depends.

Third vote for either. I have both setups and don't really notice much difference.

Same programming card works for the hw1080 esc and the fusion motors and messing around with the settings will probably do more for you than the difference between the two.

My first thoughts were to keep the stock 16T REEDY POWER 540 motor and get a HW 1080. Just to keep it very simple with a little ESC upgrade. Now I think if I am going to replace the ESC just go all way!

How much performance gain from a Fusion SE to a Fusion Pro?

I am also thinking of a REEFS steering servo. And probably should upgrade my stock radio to get full potential out of the Fusion if I go that route. I see Matt and Josh use the expensive Flysky radio. Any thoughts on that as well?

The reedy 16t is not a bad motor. I'm my experience the hw1080 with the programming card gets you a long way over the stock element esc even with the programming card.

Stock esc is also not waterproof.

The fusion pro has a few additional programmable settings and 500 rpm per volt speed. Smoothness of both at low speed is quite good, pro slightly better in my experience. Hardly notice the speed or benefit from additional settings.

I have no experience with the flysky transmitters. I doubt you would notice a performance difference as a newer driver though. Ease of set up is the biggest advantage to better transmitters. I have radiolink rc6 and rc7 and dumbo ddf350. The good part of these is being able to easily set end points of your servo independently left and right, adjustments to throttle curves, and stuff like all via a screen instead of with knobs or multi step hold this while pushing that and then turn on transmitter type processes the rtr controllers usually use. That plus you can run multiple receivers(vehicles) with one controller (not at the same time to my knowledge). Good if you build from scratch or don't want to have multiple controllers, etc. bad if you loan your trucks to people at the same time as driving yourself.

Do the stock Element motor screws fit the Fusion motors? I see some people when swapping out their Reedy motors the stock screws are a bit too long to fit into a Fusion brushless motor. The stock screws are hitting something inside the Fusion motor.
Wanted to know if anyone one who has swapped motors ran into this issue?
I think the Element motor screws are 3x8mm.

I cant answer the screw length question but most hardware stores carry various M3 screws so you could either grab some shorter ones just in case or make a trip after you test fit if needed. If you really need to you could also cut the screws down to length but an off the shelf length screw should work for this.
EDIT: If you can't find it locally Amain has a decent selection of fasteners either specific lengths or big boxes with different lengths.
