What would pair nicely with an axial wraith?

So it's time for me to buy another crawler for my son. Currently I have a brushless wraith that we fight over when in the woods. We both have bashers, so we both need crawlers. We do mostly trail hikes with some nice crawling areas. Most of the trails are rocky rough stuff, and hilly. Basically more like rock racing really. We are in new England so plenty of snow and ice in the winter too.
So initially I was thinking of getting a bomber for me and giving him the wraith. Then I thought maybe just get another wraith. I've also thought about an ifs rig, like a rock rey. Even thought about the trx4, and now the gen8. But would be nice to have them closely matched. Not concerned about scale looks either.
I'm not too impressed with axial to be honest. Takes a lot of money in aftermarket parts to make it last all afternoon. I know every rig has it's weak points, just seems to be a lot of them with axial. So something a little more durable stock would be nice.
Which ever vehicle I get for him I'd probably use a mamba x (or even the mmx) and toss in a reedy sonic m2 17.5t I've got kicking around for now (he's still young so that'll be enough power for now). Geared for a top speed of 10 to 15 mph. Mine currently has an rx8 (water "proofed") and a few different motors, generally geared for a top speed of 16mph.
I know this is more of a "get what you think is best for you" type of question, but I'm looking for someone who may be has a wraith and goes out with someone who has whatever vehicle and can say it's a good match or it isn't.

Why not a used wraith from the classifieds. Cheaper than new, spend the difference you'd have paid on a new one for upgrades.

Bomber kit while you can or a Rock Rey. A more rational solution might be another Wraith, then you could compare driving skills vs one rig being better than the other should that become an issue. I also totally agree that having to double the rig's purchase price for upgrades so you can drive it is a joke, they scale everything for appearance but don't account for the fact you can't scale gravity.......... Does budget matter? As someone else stated, pick up a used rig that already has upgrades, then its only a matter of going through it for maintenance before running, so you can teach the kid how to wrench. "thumbsup"

I've got 2 Wraiths, and I just could not recommend you buying a 2nd one when the Bomber exists. A Bomber with shorter rear links will do everything a Wraith does... better. The parts interchangeability between the 2 is still very good where it counts, mostly just a difference of cage/trans (and of course, trailing arms on the Bomber.)

Here's an idea from out in left field: how about a TRX4 Sport, setup as a 2.2 car?

Yeah I've been looking for an upgraded roller. Problem is not many people around where I live, so I'd have to find one online, and I'm a little weary of buying without seeing it. I did just find an axial wraith that would be perfect. Has some upgrades for 250. Almost an hour drive away but might be worth the drive if it's as good as it looks in the tiny pictures. It's on Craigslist so I'm going to email him now. Thanks for the info guys and any more thoughts or info is welcomed.
