Good evening, or morning here...

So I have a question for you guys. I am currently deployed in the mid east and need something to do in my downtime. I have plenty of toys back home, but that's the issue... they are all back home lol. Here is one of my other builds.

Anyway, I am looking at getting a SCX24 to play with over here, but anything I do to it or buy will have to be ordered in. From the crawler, to tools, accessories etc, I will have to order it all. I am looking at the SCX24 as it is small, and anything I buy will then have to be shipped back home when it is time to RIP out, so I am trying to keep things to a minimum. With that in mind, what are the really needed upgrades to the SCX24? Not the nice to have, but really kind of needed?

So far from what I can tell:
1. Servo will need to be upgraded to something like ES08MA
2. Shapeways servo mount? (again, need to make it as simple as possible as I do not have longer screws, washers, anything here!)
3. Some simple charger for the little LiPo. Again, I have all sorts of chargers at home, just need a simple bulletproof one for these batteries
4. Will have to order some hex drivers

Any other "Must Have" upgrades or tools that I will need? I *may* look at some of the other Shapeways parts, but I need to keep the KISS principal in mind while here, and I definitely have a tendency to go overboard.

So with that in mind, what else will I need to do in order to keep it rolling? Any time we order from here it will take at least 2 weeks to come in so I need to try to keep it dependable. Just keep in mind I have nothing, like the things any of us who have been in the hobby for a little while (or 35 years) like screw drivers, X-Acto knife, small zip ties, hardware, super glue, etc. Thanks for any suggestions

Absolutely not an expert here but I'd say that tires/ wheels are an absolute necessity to really have fun with this little crawler. Stock tires are very bouncy. I like the ones that I have... not the biggest and prob not the best but the size fits the scx24 well and they are supple with a good deal of grip. They're the RC4WD 1.0 MTR's mounted to RC4WD Classic 8-hole 1.0 bead-locks.

The charger I'm using is overkill and prob more than you're wanting to spend so not sure what's a good/ inexpensive one well-suited for these little batteries. Speaking of which... I'd consider getting at least one if not two additional batteries so that you have more run time.

I just installed that same servo and so far so good. It is definitely more snug in the stock servo mount so I had to do some sanding on the mount to get it to fit without distorting the plastic. Hopefully the shapeways mount is a tad larger.

Get the lower cog battery tray and esc mount when you order the servo tray. Used stock screws.for the servo tray, battery tray and esc will use stock screws as well.

Get an extra battery and a real charger.
Maybe even get the wheel weights and wideners, you will need a socket tool for the lugs.
