Wheeled Extreme Radio Control Rock Buggy Competitions

Mission Statement:
The purpose of these rules is to organize events in the style of we rock buggy competition. We want competitors to make their vehicle look as realistic as possible. And have fun driving technical radio control rock crawling courses. Scale appearance is the number one emphasis with these competitions and we realize this is not for everyone. While competition is at the forefront of these classes/events please emphasize camaraderie and having fun.

RULES:
-No ladder frame only chassis’; must be full tubular construction or tubular body with panels bolted on (This is the only exception to using a ladder frame chassis). One piece bodies not allowed.

-Tube or solid rod is allowed in any metal.

-No Tub/Pan Chassis (Losi Rock Rey, etc).

-Must weigh at least 7 pounds. (No exceptions)

-No weight hangers, brass knuckles are allowed but must be painted to not look brass.

-All brass parts must be painted.

-Must have a realistic living human figure 6+ inches tall driving the vehicle in a realistic driving position in a driving seat. Figure and seat can not be hollow and must be seperate pieces. Must be fully clothed.

- Must have a realistic driving cockpit (steering wheel, dash/dashbar, shifter, seat, etc.).

-No part of the drivetrain (transmission, transfercase) can be outside the confines of the chassis/tube work.

-Electronics must be completely hidden from view (esc, receiver, battery, bec, etc) only servos and servo wires are allowed to be visible.

- Winches, if visible must be (1:1) realistic, otherwise they must be hidden (ie servo winch).

-All tube work must be metal and a minimum of 1/8th inch diameter (exception listed below).

-Driver Figure helmets encouraged.

Realism Bonus & Unrealistic Penalty Points: Will be subtracted/added from your total score for a single event, not per course.

Realism Bonus:
-5 point bonus for rear motor moonbuggies.
-Motor location must meet all requirements-
-Behind the center line of the wheelbase,
-Behind the B-pillar,
-Behind upper link mounts on chassis side.
-Electric motor must measure at least 50mm in length and have no part forward of aforementioned items/areas. (50mm length is measured from mounting face to end bell, shaft does not count in this measurement).

(can only receive bonus for one of the below (2) options)

-10 points for complete (encasing the electric motor powering vehicle) realistic engine in a realistic location (powering drivetrain) in the rc vehicle.

-5 points for a realistic engine in a realistic (powering drivetrain) location. Must be visible as a scale engine from at least 3 sides (I.E. motor cover w/ engine components).

Unrealistic Penalty (for local events only):
-Plastic Capra, Wraith, (plastic tubular chassis of other manufactures are allowed) cages . Plastic cages Start with +40 in penalties. (The reason the penalty exists is to encourage drivers to use metal cages to create an even playing field for all competitors, due to the lighter weight of plastic it is considered an advantage and goes against the spirit of these events.)

- 2D interiors will be allowed in lue of a figure, but will receive a +60 point penalty. The reason for this penalty is to increase realism and have all competitors building to the same standards of weight placement and difficulty.

Class Descriptions:
All Classes:
-Electronics/batteries must be hidden from view.
-No MOA (Motor on Axle)
-Minimum vehicle weight of 7 pounds.
- Vehicles must look realistic in everyway possible.
-A 6+ inch figure must appear to be driving the vehicle in a realistic driving position within a realistic cockpit.
-All tires must be scale licensed tires (BFG Krawler, Trepador, MTR, Etc.)
-No High Clearance (Bent) lower links of any kind. Upper and steering links maybe bent for clearance.
- No slanted skids of any kind, rockers and skid must be parallel to the ground at rest.
-Scale realistic wheels (pattern/shape/material) only, If you have to ask the answer is no.
-No weight hangers of any kind, these events are based on scale realism.
-No Winching to obstacles of any kind. (Axle/suspension winch down is allowed).

Course Rules/Penalties:
-Reverse -+1
-Rollover -+5
-Reposition-+10
-Gate touch-+10 (all gates are live on course until touched by the vehicle, straddling/hovering a gate is a gate penalty.
-No on course repairs (Repairs can be completed in between courses, but the event can not wait for you to finish repairs, must adhere to event timelines.)
-OB Lines (Out of Bounds) (touch line - +10 continue driving back in bounds in most timely manner.)(without destroying course or boundary markers).A judge or Marshall can assist “detangling” your vehicle if need be.
-2 points per gate progress (2 cones marking the right and left sides indicate a gate, both axles must break the plane of the gates to consider progress.)
-15 points for each completed bonus.
-DNF- +50 minus progress (Once +50 in penalties is assessed on course the driver/vehicle will be done with that course and judge will subtract their cleared gate progress.
DNS +60 – If a vehicle is unable to start a course it will be given a Did Not Start (DNS).
Bonus Gates- only applied to score if course is finished, Bonus gates must be completed after starting course and before finish gate is progressed.
-Gates can be progressed in their intended direction only.
6 minute time limit
Start/finish gate no progress, but gates are live and if hit asses a penalty.
5 progress gates, 2 bonus gates per course
4-6 courses per class/event.
Time starts and stops when start and finish lines are passed through with both axles.

Safety
Safety time out allowed, but vehicle must remain stationary. In the event the vehicle cannot sustain its own position while the driver is finding a safer place to drive from they can ask the judge to hold the vehicle in place. Time stops when driver calls out to stop time. Time precedes when driver has reached vehicle again and judge calls out time start/vehicle moves intentionally. No spotting, line planning, banter, etc. is done during this time. This is strictly for the safety of the driver. In the event the vehicle moves while driver is safely moving to a better driving position the judge, at their discretion can set the vehicle back where it previously was located. Vehicle does not have to move back to the last gate progressed.

Gates and course markers touched by the driver
In the event a gate or boundary is touched by a driver and not the vehicle the situation should be accessed by the judge and event marshalls. As long as this isn’t used to cheat or be an advantage the driver can continue on the course without penalty of the action.

Definitions:

Cockpit- an enclosed space where the pilot/driver sits in the vehicle and controls all the varying controls of that vehicle. (This is a reference to a full sized vehicle, as these events are based on scale realism the driver must be in a location where they can operate the vehicle they are in in a realistic manner, protected from harm as you would see in a full-size Rock buggy event).

Front Clip- this is a hood, grill (optional), and fenders attached as one piece in place of individual body panels. Hood and fenders must each be supported by tube work and have no less then 2 bolt down locations each (total of 6 for all three). An example of this is a Beetle with fenders attached, tj with attached fenders, etc. a front clip does not extend past the A-pillar.

Moonbuggy- is an experimental vehicle with the motor in the rear of the vehicle. This vehicle is only allowed in 1.9 and 2.2 Unlimited classes.

Panels- hood, fenders, quarters, doors, roof, etc. are all separated and held in place with hardware bolted to tube work.

ProMod- is a vehicle that started as a factory production vehicle with the motor/transmission at the skid plate or forward. Does not require production body panels.

Tube/tubular- in reference to the round shape. Can be hollow or solid, but must be round.
