Started this build last week or so-wanted to build a volk rod pickemup, inspired by a few 1:1's out there. Started with some SRB parts (no vintage parts were harmed during the making of this build!) and made my own rear suspension set up to keep the profile low-also aided by using a Tamiya TA03 (or similar) drive box. The SRB rear end is bulky and also $$$.

Made the pan and modified the SRB front end to have a lower profile. Moved the front shocks inboard to allow the body to drop down lower. This baby is street only so I am not concerned about ground clearance. Body is a Maisto bug sent to the chopper!

Last bit of updating:
Using 1/8th "Big T" fronts (Stu's idea) cause I think they look cool. I had to seriously abuse some RC4WD steelies to get them narrowed down to fit. I am going to use the back side facing out as I like the solid dish look. Not sure how the tires are going to hold up but what the heck: fitting the tires and the cab section.

Want to go with an old style bed. I have some ideas for a bed-I started to rough one out of styrene but I also happen to have a bunch of old tonka parts around and the bed from an old stepside actually fits nicely with a little widening...mmmm decisions....

Watching this one, been wanting to do a volksrod for a while now, any other info on that body?

These bodies are still available, are made by Maisto and sold as a complete RC toy. Make sure it's 1/10 because they make smaller sized vehicles. Sometimes they go on sale. They are on eBay right now and make a window van too!

I decided to use the bed of an old Tonka truck (it was a basket case otherwise no way!) for the bed. I cut the sides off and made a tailgate and bulkhead to fit the wider width. I think I like the height of the bed relative to the cab-couple screws in place just to hold it.
