Vanquish VXT vs Hyrax knockoffs

I just finished my Phoenix straight axle build that came with the 1.9 VXT tires and since the weather is miserable here this weekend, i was only able to test run it in my basement.

I did a basic wood plank climbing test with my son and his bomber, increasing the angle each time.

The phoenix got way better results on this test with the cheap amazon hobbypark hyrax knockoffs than with the included vxt tires, besting the Bomber.

I did put back the vxt tires on the phoenix since i didnt had adequate foams for the hyrax knockoffs (vxt foams are way thinner) but id say im not impressed with the vxt for now.

Lets see how the vxt do in real environment but im getting foams and another set of wheels to test the Amazons Hyrax and compare thats for sure!

Correct me if I'm wrong (it's my wife's passion) but I have the idea that the VXT tires don't really have much of a reputation for being good crawler tires - they are just there to look scale and such.

You are in fact correct. Although, I have certainly run tires that perform worse than vxt’s, most people don’t run them for very long. I ran them on my pro for a few runs and they started to break in and performed adequate for my needs with that rig. Ultimately I chose a more scale tire purely for looks.

The original VXTs are not a good tire. You dont see many people running them for that reason.

"Correct me if I'm wrong (it's my wife's passion)" <-Funny! Mine has the same passion!!:lmao:

^^^True statement!^^^

@gein - The VXT does work good as a spare tire mounted in a bed of a truck.:)

The original vxt's are so good I can't find someone around here to give them to

I got my Hyrax k/o for pretty cheap on amazon and they are miles ahead of the vxt's...

But they really look like crap, i would now like to find a good scale replica tire (4.7 or so) that performs decently for general trail usage...

One of my current favorites are the vp 4.65 falkens.

I also like PL Krawlers, km3’s, and the new PL Toyo RT trails look nice

The Hyrax isn't pretty but I do find it to be very effective on mixed terrain trails. Grippy on rock and cleans out really well when things get a little muddy.

The Pitbull Rock Beast is a nice scale tire in its original size of 4.65 OD. Its a replica of a 1:1 Pitbull tire.

Edit : sorry, my mistake it's only 4.45 OD

The Falkens looks so good!

But i was so disapointed with the vxt's that im not too keen to go Vanquish again...

Km3's are high on my list, they look awesome and seems to perform decently....

I also looked at the RC4WD Baja claw TTC.

The falken is a completely different compound than the vxt. I picked up a set with plastic beadlocks for $45 off Facebook. I have them on three different rigs now. Don’t worry about them being anything like the vxt.

I too like the 4.45” rock beast, but replaced them with the falkens on my pro.

I’ve never been let down with a PL tire so far though

Went for some trail time with my 8 yo son and his Bomber today, those hyrax ko may not look good but boy what a difference they make!

Went from a truck that was struggling to follow my son's Bomber, to a truck that leaves the axial in the dust....Well, as long as the trail is rough enough :lmao:

Those premium kits should not come with such bad tires in my opinion, maybe for the RTR's but come on, Vanquish should include the Wildpeak M/T in all their builders kits.
